Description

Chifley Dam M1 TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Chifley Dam M1.

Serial number is: TS number not allocated.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 718 meters.

Also known as PM170491.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Hill End and Mudgee weekend April 2018. I set out late on Thursday after a small battery issue. I only stopped once before a night at Bummeroo ford. Friday took me to Orange via many spread out caches between Oberon and Bathurst. I spent the night at Macquarie woods. Saturday started foggy and then warmed up. I was heading to Hill end, and did make it, but I had to give up on the Bridal track due to a rockfall. Late in the evening I did find a spot along the Turon river and the very bumpy northern section of the Bridle trail. Sunday had me finishing the TRLT trail from Mudgee to Gulgong and a few missed ones in tyhe middle of nowhere. The last day was a simple drive home from Sofala. A great weekend !

Thanks

Headed up to the Bathurst region for a bit of birthday caching with fitzy_1965 in order to collect some unloved and out of the way caches.

Was happy to arrive at the Dam for 6 quick and easy trigs. The walk across the dam wall to the last 3 was interesting to say the least. I thought the seagulls were trying to grab my breakfast that I was eating on the way over. In the end, we think they are nesting on the wall and were just letting their presence be known. Was less eventful on the way back.

GCA 1762. Found on a celebration journey up around the Bathurst region with minniek.

We were looking forward to this visit to Ben Chifley Dam - 6 Trigs for the price of 1 ! Grabbed the 3 on the south side, then walked over the dam wall (where as with SDL we were made aware our presence wasn't appreciated by the local birds - at least on the way over anyway) for the other 3. Used the facilities then moved on to the next cache !

The first of the 6 trigs around the Chifley Dam. Arrived just after the gates opened and it wasn't long before I had the one spotted. From there it was just a matter of grabbing the other two on this side of the dam before walking across the dam walk for the other three. The local birds weren't happy with me being in the area and tried to convince to move on, but no real problems and they just 'escorted' me a walk along.

Six trigs for one stop....gotta be happy with that.

I had the mountain bike with me today, so I had a pleasant ride across the top of the dam to get photos of these trigs.

A discovery tour with rogerw3 ('there can't just be one there') and as you approach the public area all six can be easily sighted. So, why, on a previous visit to log the original listed trig were these overlooked by the 'mushroom? No idea except it was wet and windy back in 2013.

M1 stands on the (picnic shelter) hill just over a fence to the dam works depot.

Found with whitemushroom today, no problem with this one, almost within arms reach over the fence.
