Description

Gray Trig; Official Code: TS6203

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found while concentrating on a Gnome hunt in the area for States of the Nation 2017-18.

I hope I can work an extra claim out of this one. If not, still a beaut view over the valley as an extra reward.

I had a wonderful time caching in Goulburn today. This is the first trig cache that I have done being a newbie to Geocaching.com.au. What fun and what incredible views up here.

A parked a few hundred m from the trig as not sure what access would be like, however found you could drive right up to it. Some terrific views over Goulburn and the nearby freeway. The name of the trig is Gray so will change the name here from Grey to Gray.

The icing on the cake after a great cache series up this mountain. Actually, I would not have done the GC series if it were not for the fact that there was a trig up here. I would have gone somewhere else.

Would normally be able to drive up to this trig but with a gate closed (but not locked) I decided to walk the final 100m. As I approached I saw another car right near the trig so I've taken a photo from afar.

Yes - this was a drive-by trig, but it was not an easy drive up as the road was pretty rough in places for my 2WD vehicle. Found with mtrax & saw a few other cachers coming and going too. TFTT.

This is actually GRAY (NOT GREY) trig TS6203. The nameplate has the correct spelling but no number. LPI info puts it at S34 45.511 E149 45.797.
Fantastic views up here, It's great to find a trig that still has almost 360º coverage, even if it's now dwarfed by the antenna farm that's grown around it. A rough road but well worth it.

Gotta love a drive-by Trig. Great view of the lilac city from up here and there's the Hume over my shoulder. Cute Trig in among some intimidating towers Smile .

A great day of caching in the highlands and Goulburn. Had lots of puzzles solved in the preparation and was determined to do multi's or any unusual caches as well. Ended up with only 3 dnf for the day and lots of funny and good finds, thanks for putting out all the caches.

Have been up here hundreds of times, and never realised the cache significance of this structure Embarassed . However, now that I have taken a greater interest in geocaching in general, and GCA in particular, took the opportunity to remedy the situation when I chased up a new series of traditional caches in the area. Very Happy

A quick stop off to grab the necessary while out caching today.

Was up here for another cache, when I spotted this! Cool a bonus! And a driveby at that - don't get that too often with trigs!

#GA1041 - 16:20; Out on a day run to Goulburn with Sol de lune to collect a few of the newer caches in the area, plus some of the local trigs. After collecting some caches along the road to the top, I noticed this trig was the next closest on the GPSr, but wasn't on the list for the day's run. Drove right on up and happy to find a bonus trig right where it should have been. Turns out there was a GC cache close by which was on our list and would have led us here in any event. Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1215 - 12965 overall cache finds.

Found while on a caching run with specimenX up to Goulburn - a really fun trip with lots of cache finds. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especially the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. Up here for the views and a bonus trig - actually two of them !! Someone should put out a mini trail up this road !

Thanks Geocaching Australia !
