A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Found while we were walking at Thompson Creek Dam with rogerw3. We were able to get closer to this one as its not fenced in, but still overgrown. This was the turn around spot for our walk today. TFTT

There was a BIG reason to go caching today
The dragons are having a May Madness party. A 2 times dragonZone points bonus will be on offer for all valid Geocaching Australia dragonZone caches found, except moveables, for the period Sat 11 – Sun 19 May.
Well I figured I’ll find as many trigs in 1 day as posable & that was 29 of them.
So, for me this was a BIG day of trigging.
No 6 of 29 – the 5th 1 completed of the walk around the dam for the today.
After the last 3 distance shots that I found difficult – it was great to walk up to 1 & give it a hug - many thanks for walk out here today Clan Griffin

Out and about caching with Tassie Trekkers finding trigs in the area and we targeted 12 trigs in the Thompson Creek Dam Reserve area. We thought we might be able to drive to the dam but had to stop at the gate. At least it was still open to walk in. We headed off on a nice afternoon, watching fishermen trying their luck. A great time was had. TFTT

Sol de lune

Day 2 of a 3 day road with LuckyL10n around a few area's of mid NSW. Today we finished up with the trigs around Thompson Creek Dam before heading into Bathurst for the night. We set off just after 3.00pm and managed to get back to the car just on 5.15pm. We also managed to find two missing trigs in the series, 505 and 509, and will published those for others to find so as to complete the series.

This is a neat series to complete....a fun walk and interesting location.

#GA3320 - 16:45; It was an early start to day two of the LuckyL10n, Sol de lune journey or destination tour as we take the long way to Bathurst via Dunedoo, Gulgong, Mudgee and a few smaller towns as well. Collected a few caches close to Dubbo to start the day before hitting a few more along the highway as we headed to Dunedoo, Gulgong and Mudgee for a couple more in each town. We collected a few more as we travelled down the Castlereagh Highway and then at the intersection with the Great Western Highway we we turned towards Bathurst. We had initially planned to collect this series of trigs tomorrow morning early, but we had made good time today after an early start and decided to head through Wallerawang and on to Thompson's Creek Reservoir this afternoon. The rain held off as we set off on our trek and we managed to collect all twelve (yes twelve!) in just on two hours, which included locating the two missing pieces of the puzzle (505 and 509) as we went. It was a great walk and while the hamstrings felt it later on, I'd recommend this series to any budding trig hunter. After collecting the trigs along the eastern side of the reservoir, we headed back and across the dam wall to this, the furthest trig on the western side. We were now headed back towards the geomobile on a rough rocky track when we stopped to grab a snap of this trig. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very Happy

On a trip out in the Bathurst area with alnic39 and this circuit was a nice way to limber up for everything else nearby. They weren't very innovative with the names of the pedestals but they weren't too hard to spot in the distance nicely painted white with their names on them. Thanks for those who found these trigs and loaded them. These were easier to get too

I came last week to get this series, but it was too cold for riding, so I only got the first. This morning, it was a bit chilly, but I brought gloves to make the ride and bit more bearable. This is a great series to do on a mountain bike.
