Description

Mark number: TS 10258
Monument type: TOWER
Trig name: COBAR RADIO TOWER

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

#GA5373 - 10:50; Day two of a mission through the Central West of New South Wales with Sol de lune to grab some of the dragonZones to our west was now underway after overnighting in Lake Cargelligo. Today's travels took us from Lake Cargelligo past Murrin Bridge, into Cobar, Bourke, Brewarrina, Walgett and on to Carinda to overnight. We collected finds in Lachlan, Cobar, Brewarrina and Walgett dragonZones and counties along the way. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out on a road trip with LuckyL10n to grab a few dragonZones in outback NSW that we still had to visit including Bland, Carrathool, Lachlan, Cobar, Brewarrina, Walgett, Coonamble as well as grabbing a few caches in previously visited zones. A fun 3 days with over 2200 klms notched up along the way. A visit to the little town of Carinda which is famous for a visit by David Bowie to record a film clip for one of his single releases, was a bit of a highlight. A neat pub with great food and a good sort of atmosphere. Well worth the drive off the main road to check it out. At $55 a night the accommodation, while basic, was not too bad.

This was one of the many trigs we found while out and about. No issues here and the required photo was soon snapped.

Thanks for another trig.... Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy

West New South Wales trip 2020. Day 2. I was joined by MinnieK and Fitzy_1965 for a trip planned to go from
Goulburn to Forbes, Nyngen, Cobar, Broken Hill, Wentworth and Balranlad. After a sleep in we left our overnight
stop at Warren and headed to Cobar via Nyngen. There were a few caches along the way, but most of the action
was the Australian Towns series North of Cobar, and a great selection of local caches. The two Earth caches
were the highlight.

The Fort Bourke area was a highlight of this trip.

Thanks

Earlier this year we headed to Brisbane for our niece's wedding. As we hadn't been to Burke we decided to go via Burke, Lightning Ridge including Cobar on our route picking up as many caches as we were able to. We enjoyed the many places we visited and found a few spots well off the normal route that we would not have visited if we had not been hunting for caches. Trig Points come in many varied forms. We particularly enjoy the older versions that usually involve longish walks in steep areas. Most have excellent views over the country side. The old stone cairns are particularly nice to find. These often have plaques attached giving details of when, who and why they were placed.

This radio tower is a newer version of trig point and can be easily seen from below. Although some see these metal structures towering above the landscape a eye sores they are a necessary part of our communications system. Before taking our photo of this tower we watched one of the giant trucks make its way slowly down the incline and disappear into the mine tunnel. This is a popular place for visitors so that retrieving the near by caches can be tricky at times.

Our photo of one of us in front of the tower is attached.

We arrived in Cobar this afternoon and once settled at the caravan park, we made our way around town and to find some caches. This was one of them. TFTC

Ducked across the road after Church at the Camel's Club this morning. There was a small crowd gathering here to watch a truck head down the slopes and into the mine. Everyone disappeared once the truck did, so I grabbed my photos then.

Came up here to look for the GC cache and realised that there were 2 new trigs listed. It was cold and windy late in the day but still an interesting place to visit.
Thanks.
