Description

The visible structure is gone, but the name plate and bolt show this is indeed a trig.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

There has been plenty of rain recently, and it made some of the creek crossings in the first part of the days walk a challenge. The day was a group of Sol de Lune, Smitten Granny, Joolay, Barb2e and Kitty Katch. Our aim were the puzzles south of the Paintball and the Tankengine caches along the railway line. It was a very successful day with some difficult puzzles and some difficult terrain. All in all a great day.

I have been meaning to do this trig for some time. I found a good parking spot in a pull off area on the Monaro Highway. It was an easy climb over the gate into the Melrose Nature Reserve and a 300m walk to the trig marker crossing Tuggeranong Creek which had water in it today. The view was quite good. After taking the necessary photos, I decided to extend the walk on the nearby abandoned railway line. I did about 1 km of the line passing through the impressive McAlisters Cutting and across the Rocky Gully crossing to the site of the railway camp cookhouse. I highly recommend the extended walk.

I don't really do GCA caches and have only ever logged a couple of other trigs in the past!
If a GC cache takes me straight to an obvious trig point I thought I may as well photograph it so I can also claim this, cool!

Thanks for finding this trig noikmeister, maybe one day when I start running out of GC caches in Canberra I will find all the GCA caches too Razz

Out grabbing a few GCA caches during a dragonZone double point week and this was my next stop. Parked on the highway and headed off for the short 320 odd metre walk. Down, across and then up....and was soon at the cache. Grabbed a couple of photos and then took the return trip. Another trig in the ACT cross. I wonder how many 'unknown' trigs are still out there??

Found this whilst up on this hill! I must have walked right past this trig a number of times during previous visits to the area! Maybe because it didn't look like a trig. But it says it's a trig, so good enough for me!
