Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. This trig point is formed with a very large pile of rocks with a wooden post in the centre.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Drove the geomobile to 100 metres from the cache, and I am sure it could drive to the cache, but that last hill looked steep (to come down). It was so steep that I struggled to walk down the hill.
Some nice views had. The trig was found quickly and photos taken
I was up here many years ago when I was looking for SPMs (State Permanent Markers).
On that visit I drove up the road and just before the end of the road another car caught up to me and turned off into a driveway just before I parked the car. I walked the last pit up the track to where the trig used to be.
I took some photos and headed back down to the car and back home.
A couple of days later back at work I a work colleague wanted to know what I was doing up at Mt Louis. I asked him how he knew I was there. He then went on to explain he was driving the car that followed me up the road and he lived in the house near where I had parked the car. After I explained that I was looking for the trig point he said that the beacon was there up until a couple of years ago when it got pushed over and he thought it was still there in the blackberries.
A couple of days latter he said he had taken the kids for another walk up the hill and couldn’t see the trip and said they have cleaned the area up.

TFTC
The house near the top must have great views, we investigated the ruins too while we were up here.
Thansk for the cache.
Arrived at the white disc and was tempted to drive to the top - left the car and walked. The walk is relatively easy.
Once at the top, the location of the "trig" was easily found and necessary tasks were soon completed.
Started to rain, but only a short session; another on the track and back in the car it bucketed down - thanks to the weather gods for being kind!
Sainted this "trig" at 1135hrs.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
I visited a couple of weekends ago but decided to double check ownership before venturing onto the old vehicle track.
There is also a right of way coming up from Tinderbox Rd but I couldn't see it as I was walking up.
I was surprised that there wasn't a beacon to be seen at the summit, but I did find the trig marker (brass pin) fairly easily.
As for the reference marks, I was unable to locate any of them. I think they may have been cleaned up by a dozer.
I did manage to find a couple of old iron rings and a spike that woiuld have belonged to the signal station pole that was erected here in convict times. There is evidence of a building and also a well just down the hill. This signal station formed part of the link between Port Arthur and Battery Point.
