Description

Haunted Hills 1973-Narracan PM 175

Wasn't sure whether to publish this one as I know there is an entry http://geocaching.com.au/cache/gc4v68n.
Have added an attachment from the SMES website with details about this trig.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated

#GA2156 - 08:45; Day two of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After a night in Traralgon, today sees us head through the Latrobe Valley, Baw Baw, South Gippsland and on to the Bass Coast before heading north through Cardinia, Yarra Ranges into Murrundindi and an overnight in Alexandra. Another stop close to Moe as we headed towards the coast by a round about route. Managed to get up close with this one. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Interesting location...wonder if it is ever used with the fire tower now over the top of it? Anyway, photo snapped and all was good.

Abandoning all three boys at home, asleep, I took myself off with the aim of five trigpoints in a circuit around the Yallourn-Moe-Thorpdale area. Third on the list was this cache and I'd been here before for the GC cache almost on top of it. The views from here are well worth the visit and parking is really easy with a provided turn-off. A quick snap of the encaged TP and I was off again. TFTC Geocaching Australia.

This is an interesting trig beacon as the communication tower appears to have been built over the top of the trig point. The views from this spot are outstanding even on overcast days. There is plenty of parking close by. However care needs to be taken when reentering traffic as local road traffic tends to whizz by.
Our photo is attached.

I do hope that I have gotten this one correct.
Was out looking around for other caches in the area, and I remember seeing this one on here and thought to myself, why not. I have never heard of one of these so why not give it a go and experience it. Very happy to be brought to this place. It was lovely and amazing to see 'Victoria Premier Cloud Making facilities'
