Description

Tyers West - Tanjil East PM 128

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Using the web-based "Survey Marks Enquiry Service (SMES)", the mark-name and alternate name for this survey marker have being acquired.

This trig is inside a "Private Property" fenced farm land, however you can get up close enough from the roadside. (without trespassing).

*Best approach is from "Brown Coalmine RD (C103)" and turn into "Whittles Rd" (which is a gravel road).

#GA2151 - 07:45; Day two of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After a night in Traralgon, today sees us head through the Latrobe Valley, Baw Baw, South Gippsland and on to the Bass Coast before heading north through Cardinia, Yarra Ranges into Murrundindi and an overnight in Alexandra. This was our first stop after an early start to the day and despite the weather, we had a clear view to the trig. A couple of snaps and we hit the road again. winding my way home after a very wet night at Macalister Springs I decided a few trips were in order.

this was the first and I was truly shocked at the heat when I got out of the car compared to in the hills. it was turning out to be a stinker. anyway a quick snap and off I went again.

I was granted an hour or so to head out and about scavenging this afternoon and this was my first destination. My poor little VW Jetta struggled up the hill, orange traction light flashing at me in desperation, but I made it and parked precariously on the hillside. Seeka and I escaped the car which thankfully didn't slide backwards down the hill, and snapped a quick photo with this TP. No idea why it's yellow! TFTC Geocaching Australia.

It had been raining quite heavily when we turned onto the road leading passed this trig point. The unsealed road was mostly rough, providing good traction but there were two or three patches where the rain had made the clay surface slippery. We managed to get our all wheel drive wagon to a spot where we were close to the trig marker which is about 15m inside private property. Photo taken we bolted back to the car as the rain started to fall heavily again. We managed to make it back to the main road with only one or to slips and slides. Our photo is attached.
