Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Information:

Although the monument has gone two of reference marks can be found at the base of a tree on the edge of the golf course.

Access can be gained from the Waterloo Point Track.

When I saw the name of the track I needed to be on to get to this trig I very quickly realised that Swansea was not the only Welsh derived name in this area. I headed up Loontitetermairrelehoiner Dancing Track to the edge of the golf course and Trig for a quick find. Now it’s time for some Earthcaching, thanks for the cache Smile

While we were in Swansea caching with some family members who are new to the game we made our way to this trig point. Had to wait until some golfers cleared the area for us then grabbed the required photo

Hi Alby,
After completing the ready aim fire series we ventured into Swansea to pick up the gca caches in the area for more Ammo for the battleship games.
After initially finding the read dots on rocks we soon located the trig marker buried under the tree litter. TFTC

Found with geoSonA. Pics attached. At the same time KingSmev was fishing a wrecked one wheel missing bicycle out of the sea up and onto the rocks!
Was in Swansea today for a BBQ catchup with a group of Mrs EeePee's long term mates from way back, including Lil Rafa.
We 14 with 4 canines enjoyed our walk down Gordon Street to the boat ramp, then south to nab a couple, then backtracked northward, grabbing this trig, then rounding the point and ended up at the main jetty/pier. We'd run out of time there, so headed back the the shack near Gordon Street, for a cool drink, and then it was off home for us, via fish and chips at Triabunna.
A great spot with great views. THANKS mate.

Heading back now while on my pre-dinner stroll, I stopped by this one for a look. I wasn't sure what was what here but took a couple of shots at 18:05 just in case. There were no golfers around at this time of day so it was all quite peaceful. Very Happy

Many thanks AlbyDangles.

Out and about with RLD4963 on a weekend away up the east coast, decided to grab some caches along the way. We had a lovely morning in Bicheno, and stopped off at Swansea on the way home to see if we could find a couple more before having to head home. No one on the fairways this afternoon so able to snap the required photo which is attached.

Called in on our way home.

Today the weather was just perfect for a caching run, we were heading up the East coast and this was the first GCA we found today, we had been here before but it was on the way home and it was bucketing it down so we didnt bother even getting out of the car.

But today it was a nice dry walk to GZ and after a false start we discovered the correct Survey Mark and took our pictures.

Thanks for the cache.

The last time I was here it was bucketing down. I sat in the car with SSR down by the beach looking up the path thinking 'stuff it'. Today there was no hesitation, up we went the detoured up to the golf course to find the trig. We took some photos but then realized there was more too it when we found the real disk under the tree.

#GA2874 - 14:05; After arriving in Tasmania last Saturday and heading down to Hobart for a few days, the geohoney and I were now headed north for a few days in Launceston. We decided to take the scenic route up the east coast, to avoid the roadworks on the Midlands Highway and to enjoy some nice views and collect a cache or two on the way. After stopping off in Richmond, we were now heading north along the Tasman Highway. Spotted this trig when we reached Swansea and after parking the geomobile headed along the track, up the hill and onto the golf course for the find. We came across the Waterloo Point Trig Point during a recent visit to the Swansea area. Thankfully there were no golfers in the vicinity. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie standing next to the survey marker which was under a tree; and a closer view of the survey marker. Thanks for the cache.

I was out caching with AmazingDaughter along the east coast and had just found a cache nearby and was enjoying the view when I noticed there was a trig close by so we thought we would have a go to finding this trig.
It didn't take too long before we found the first marker after a little more searching we found the other marker with the brass disk. It was then a case of taking a couple of photos before we headed off to get some lunch.
I find the view from this point on a good day to be one of the best in Tasmania.

PS thanks to OldSaint for letting me know I hadn't logged a find on this trig.

Hi Alby
Just had to get out and about today; the call of plastic was too strong.
Arrived at the car park after a leisurely drive from the Huon and there was one other vehicle parked awaiting the return of its two muggle passengers who sitting in cuddle fashion on nearby rocks taking in the view.
A small flock of Black Cockies greeted me at the trail head - love these creatures!
After a few false starts at GZ, a find was procured after its "cammo" was removed; enabling me to Saint the cache at 1416hrs.
The walk back was just as enjoyable as was the walk to the cache especially as the cockies were still there - stood still admiring them for some time
A great spot, beautiful views; especially on a day as nice as it was today
TFTC and cheers
