Description

Wallerawang TS10109

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Wallerawang.

Serial number is: TS10109.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 1046 meters.

Unusual type of trig, only the base pipe is left, indications are this was set up during construction of the Wallerawang Power Station, Thompson Creek reservoir and the Lake wallace Reservoir.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Came in from Wallerawang side – as noted in last 2 logs there are many tracks here which crisscross the area. I drove to within 300 metres & did a series climb to trig. Most of the tracks are motorbike tracks so if you have a trail bike this is no problems. Otherwise a walk is the go here. Up the train rating a little as most people will be walking to trig & many trails to pick from so which 1 to pick – otherwise a nice view from up here – once again many thanks Clan Griffin

A late decision to check out trigs on the backblocks of Wallerawang with rogerw3 ...

An eventual park in a maze of criss-crossing tracks, with rogerw3 beelining across country through light gum forest ... a steady climb to eventually reach the roundabout track along the narrow ridgeline. Unknown as to what would be at the trig coordinates, it proved to be a trackside 'capped pipe' maybe 25 cm tall. Possibly in line with the Wallerawang and Thompson Creek dams, what was noticed was that it was short of the top of the rise.

Found today with whitemushroom, not what was expected, but the top of the pipe is threaded so some sort of instrument mount would have been fixed to it and removed when no longer needed.
Most likely was only ever used during construction of the power station complex.
