Description
Vulcan TS4552
Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Vulcan.
Serial number is: TS4552.
Last inspected on: No Data.
Elevation is: 1327 meters.
This is a cairn with mast and vanes inside the pine forest. Make sure you have your GPSr and a waypoint to return to your car, it is frighteningly easy to get turned around, it all looks the same in all directions!
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Fitzy_1965 navigated the forest roads to park about 80m away. A quickish walk through the forest for the find.....well... if my GPS (iphone) had me going in the right direction! I ended up about 40m away in the wrong direction.
Anyway, what a magnificent find tucked away in the forest. Geokid No. 4 was truly impressed.
Grabbing a few local caches and we couldn't pass up the fun drive in through the forest for this one. Yet another easy Trig with so few visitors.
TFTC !!
It was nice to complete this trig as it was - dragonZone June = 6 = JuneIt's the 6th month of the year so why not a 6 times bonus? It's all happening between 2-Jun-2018 and 11-Jun-2018 (inclusive) so get out your geocache finding or hiding shoes, get those pens poised, crack open the cache containers of happiness and enjoy a 6 x bonus while it lasts.
So this was the highest difficulty and terrain ratings today done and figured a very high bonus score coming ā so thanks again
A roadside image for this one.
Thanks
Albida
A surprisingly good road - with a few pines toppled from the recent weather - with a flock of juvenile black cockatoos along the way, for a park roadside. Off on foot into the deep dank dense dark pine* a bit hither and thither til, behold, Vulcan in its near pristine condition preserved in its forest enclosure. Vanes with a still galvanised sheen and marked Vulcan, wooden mast with trig point engraving and a near perfect circular rock cairn. A top find, indeed.
* Mark a waypoint before venturing in ... decidedly unnerving metres within the forest.
Turned out to be a fairly easy find, beware without a return waypoint we might very well have started in the wrong direction.
The cairn, mast and vanes are in excellent condition and well worth the walk. The mast has the Trig symbol carved on it as well as the name on the vane.
