Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Information:

Best approach is from the track that follows the coast from Lime Bay to the northern end of Lagoon Beach.

You will need to bash your way through the bracken fern for the last 350m after leaving the coast track.

Today we decided to head to Lime Bay and find a few caches and this was one of them. Wow what a great day we had, no wind, spot on reflections and the tide coming in. Many muggles were out and about, camping, swimming and walking. A peaceful place to visit and enjoy the views.

At the end of the beach Mr T headed along the track and found a small trail leading off to the right. He followed this up to the top of the ridge and then headed towards the TP. As Old Saint said, those bracken ferns are very hard to walk through. Once at the top he took the required pic and headed off to the next trig. This was very hard as he had to negotiate through the tall teatrees that were above head height. Once back to the track he then headed to the next TP and took the required pic. All in all a great walk to both of these trigs, excellent views of the cliffs at the second TP. An enjoyable day out.

Bit of a slog but got here.

31-Dec-17
Trekked out to Lagoon bay cache across the dry lagoon, then ventured along the sandy track towards Black Rock Hill.
I was trying to find an easy looking way to the top but once I had less than 700m to go, I decided now was the time to start Swampy caching.
The teatree was twice as tall as me and in some places, it was spaced about 12cm apart - just enough room to squeeze through with my daypack on.
After negotiating the teatree and all the other scrub that was as tall as me, I finally popped out into the bracken with less than 250m to go.
Found the trig (galv steel picket and a pile of rocks) and one of the RMs (not sure which one though).
Now for the trip back down. Off I went in roughly the direction of the camp ground until I saw what I thought was the sandy track, which turned out to be the beach so a slight course change to the right to pick up the track. I think I spent nearly as much energy battling to get to the track as I did to get to the trig!
An enjoyable walk nonetheless. Thanks for the trig!

After a lot of searching and bashing through bracken I eventually found it.

Hi Alby
Today I decided to get three Trigs located on the Tasman Peninsula; TP7488, TP7487 and TP7486.
This was the second one tackled out of the three; all of which involved walking through bracken ferns, hence this is called by me Bracken 2, in fact it can be called Bracken 2 Plus 'cos bashing thru the wet bracken for a little over 350m uphill was no fun; nor was coming back down thru it again.
Started out with dry clothes but the jeans were saturated by the time I got to the top of the hill, not from the drizzle, but the water on the ferns; cold too! For the second time today.
The track in was interesting and continued to be so on the way to final cache.
Sainted the cache at 1245hrs.
Thanks for taking me here and for the *FTF*
Cheers
OldSaint.
