Description

Official Code: TS2285 - Governor

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Parked along Gorman road and walked up one of the 4WD tracks to the top and found it quite easily. The post and vanes are about 20 metres to the south of the stone cairn.

Today was a small group outing to Goulburn. My first trip over the border for over two months. The main aim was the Governors Hill caches for a walk, but there were several other caches on the days list to be attempted as well. The group was Sol de Lune, Smitten Granny, Isopeda, Barb2e, Kitty Katch and Joolay.

I had done the two near the highway, so the rest were for today. Only one needed attention. All in all a very nice walk on a hill no where near as difficult as the ones we have been on the last few weekends.

Today Mrs Y'stassie went for an early morning walk up Governor's Hill. The tracks were busy with walkers and runners coming by at regular intervals. On arriving at the trig marker she found all that was left was the stone cairn.
A photo has been added to our log.

Came up this way looking for a couple of GC caches. Weirdly, I missed this when at the nearby cache. Had to come back for it

Managed to just park off the road near the top of the hill and after a few hundred metres walk reached the trig. Good to see one of these old time trigs in such good condition.

Another find while in town for the annual Geocaching NSW invasion. Parked in the cemetery and took a walk of just under 500 metres to find the trig without issue. Photo snapped and all was good.

A great day of caching in the highlands and Goulburn. Had lots of puzzles solved in the preparation and was determined to do multi's or any unusual caches as well. Ended up with only 3 dnf for the day and lots of funny and good finds, thanks for putting out all the caches.

Chooo ooo a lovely trig find on a warm afternoon! A bit smelly here today, with the wind coming from the sewage works! But a nice old trig.

I have known of this trig point for 30 years, but have only recently really gotten into GCA. My intention was to list this trig with GCA, and of course, claim the FTF. However, as I deliberated about how to do this, the traditional Caches I planted on Governors Hill were published on GC.com. These were deployed with the direct intention of getting people up to this trig point, with one of my hides only a few meters from the trig. However, who else but TE would get up here so quickly, so congratulations to TE on FTF for my traditional caches, & also for having the trig listed but allowing me the FTF honours. Very much appreciated
I have included a couple of photos of the trig & its associated survey mark .
