Description

Not exactly a trig station, but not just a survey mark either.

While trig stations are used for horizontal control, benchmarks are used to establish a vertical datum point.

When you arrive at this location, you will notice two blue marker poles. The one on the left is the benchmark, and the one on the right is the survey mark. Choose wisely.

Caching in the area, snapped the required pic which has been added to the gallery.

this took a little digging in the dirt before we got the correct one

It was interesting to see the South Australia Department of Lands Tri Point marker and a survey marker in such close proximity. During this trip we have seen instances where a Survey Marker has been logged as a Trig Point but, as confirmed by highly knowledgeable and respected locals, the Survey Markers are not Trig Points. The photo attached to this log shows the Department of Lands Trig Point marker.

#GA5666 - 11:50; In South Oz for a break with the geohoney and today we headed down to Cape Jervis for a look around. Stopped off for this trig along the way. Managed to remove enough of the mud to make out the disk, but still a bit hard to see. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Two for the price of one? Was intrigued at GZ to find a benchmark and a trig point less than 3m apart! I wonder why the couldn't just use the same point?
Aside from that this was a nice easy find and the powers that be were even nice enough to provide a spacious car parking area next to GZ Mr. Green
Cheers

We were sure we'd find evidence of a trig marker here, as it is quite a prominent location.

We found a regular garden variety survey mark, and to our surprise, a benchmark!

Thanks J & J for listing this one. Love ya' work.
