Description

Triangulation Survey Disc located in Yannathan

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

This particular point consists only of the marker (bronze disc) set into the ground and does not have the framework above it and is therefore a little more difficult to spot.
It's the 'Triangulation Station' marker that makes it a Trig Point, so I'm adding it to the database.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Using the web-based "Survey Marks Enquiry Service (SMES)", the details for this survey marker have being acquired as "YANNATHAN PM 11-YANNATHAN"

Not a lot to see here. Just a pole. I could have done some digging, but once on my knees, it’s hard to get back up.

Found this one while passing through the area on my motorbike today (well sort of)
I found the blue post that everyone else has found but no luck on the actual Trig disc. I'm guessing it has been long since buried. I hope the photo of my little travelling companion standing on the post will suffice. Neutral

#GA2162 - 13:45; Day two of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After a night in Traralgon, today sees us head through the Latrobe Valley, Baw Baw, South Gippsland and on to the Bass Coast before heading north through Cardinia, Yarra Ranges into Murrundindi and an overnight in Alexandra. After visits to Morwell, Moe, Darnum, Ellinbank and many kilometres of driving through roadworks, Wontaggi and Newhaven, we were now headed north and away from the coast. It seems there's been no shortage of rain in these parts and the trig marker here is quite overgrown at the moment. The post proved most photogenic on this visit. Long grass made the trig point itself hard to find, so we also grabbed a photo of the blue marker pole as others have done. The trig marker is there, it just buried and covered by grass....

Quick drive by trig as we continue exploring the area.

Well after a rather interesting Gc.com find where I got verbally abused by a local I moved onto finding a trigpoint that was in the area. I do love finding trigpoints, I think it may be the main thing I do on this website. After parking nearby I had soon located this elusive trigpoint. Yay another trigpoint is added to my list of finds. Anyway that for the great day out caching and even grabbing a trig along the way now to go off and get some more caches. Todays geocaching trip added about 30 finds to my total on gc.com, clearing out this area and doing a couple of night caches in the area as well anyway once again thanks for the cache and the trig.

Easy drive to "Trig-Disc" with a stamped ID value "71501"

Look for a blue metal marker pole.
