Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

Headed north I photographed this in passing. TFTC.

08-Apr-22
Back in the area again as I head to Wodonga to catch up with family.
Out and about caching and taking photos for the day. Lovin' life, coffees and caches, waymarks and photos, taking the roads less travelled.
Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours? Dancing
Always a lovely area to look around and some wonderful Points of Interest and street art about.

Thanks for the cache. Clapping

Found while while out caching in the area with TG47 this morning. We managed to tie ourselves in knots over this one, but eventually the required photos were taken. TFTTP eocaching Australia.

Travelling south on another geocaching adventure to Geelong, we took advantage of a break here, to snaffle a photo of this CORS for my daily cache.
Thanks for assisting me to keep my streak going.

I found my first one today. Was a fun experience!

After finding the nearby GCA physical cache we wandered along the platform until we found the CORS antenna here.
The required photo was snapped and then it was off to clear out the rest of the unfound caches in Seymour. Pretty sure we've cleaned out this town before.
Thanks.

Didn't realise we were parked so close to the CORS. We followed the GPS through the tunnel and onto the platform only to find we were looking directly across at our vehicle. Rolling Eyes Anyway we got a closer pic but not by much.

22-Aug-18
A quick find on our way to Narrandera to attend a family funeral. Trying to pick up a few GCA caches along the way. We'd visited Seymour on a previous trip but this CORS hadn't been published then. TFTC

Found on an excellent footy trip to Melbourne with Sol de lune and LuckyL10n. On the way home after Carlton vs GWS (a complete blowout game), we pulled into SEEEEEEYMOOOOOOUR (classic Simpsons reference Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy ) to grab a photo of the CORS. Not a single steamed ham (or clam) in sight, or calves on window sills, or aurora borealis. TFTC GCA!

On the way home now and has just enough light to stop for this one. Spotted the CORs and soon had the photo snapped.

Taking the long way home from the river, via the Blood Bank in Shep, I had enough time for one last stop, so figured adding to the count of trig points was the best use of that time.

And now, we're due for dinner in Melbourne... I'd better get a wriggle on.

How handy is this. I park my bus within 30m of this TP every few days so this was a very easy photo to take. The CORS is easily visible from the roads either side of the railway line, or you could take a walk along the platform for a very close-up photo.

Found it. We are on our way to Alexandra event in Victoria and stopped here to locate the cache. TFTC

I thought I was too busy to get this one, but after using the dump point, finding my brother's name on the Vietnam Vets wall, and doing essential shopping, I found myself driving past the station, looked O the right, and there it was!

Apologized to Ms Whheels, said I'd be 90 seconds getting this one, and was back in the car in plenty of time.

Just one today.

TFTC GCA.

#GA2080 - 13:00; After a few days in Melbourne to visit the geoteen, it was time to head back up the Hume Highway for home and collect a few of the new caches as well as some which are still on the 'to do' list along this stretch of road. Took the detour to grab this recently published CORS on the way past. Found a convenient parking spot and grabbed a couple of quick snaps before hiting the road again.
