Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Information:  In a dip in the grass on the edge of the carpark, boat ramp.

Out and about with RLD4963 and the GeoGSP. Enjoyed a lovely day driving around the beautiful Huon Valley and the channel. Stopped here to log this trig which proved quite elusive as it was quite buried. Eventually it was revealed - photo attached.

during a recent visit to the Channel area we came across the Three Hut Point Trig Point. Despite many muggles at the location, we were able to locate the marker after a little digging and then get the required photos without any hassles. The photos have been added to the gallery. Thanks geocaching Australia for the cache.

We were in the area locating five new caches and picking up a few caches that we hadn't found and this was one of them. It was blowing a gale at the boat ramp so not sure how long the fishermen would stay on the jetty. We had to dig the disc out as completely hidden under dirt. The required photo has been added to the gallery. We enjoyed our trip in the Channel area. It is always a lovely place to return to again and again. TFTT

After doing 'The Channel' history cache we looked for the trig. It hadn't been covered by dirt and gravel again so was easy to spot. We have been here many times but never noticed it. I guess that goes for a lot of us!

I was driving around the channel finding caches and thought I would have a go at finding this trig.
I spent a long time trying to find this one as it was buried in the grass.
Luckily the weather wasn't too bad and when the rain came I just ducked for cover in the car a bit of a luxury that I don't usually have when finding trigs.

This trig is wheelchair friendly.
