Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Information:

The light that was the trig has been replaced with a new navigation light at the end of the point and is RM5.

The cords are for RM1 a  Brass Disc in concrete at Ground Level.

During a recent trip south we visited Brabazon Point. It was only yesterday that we found our photos recording the visit. The first visit was at 9pm one evening. We could see the light quite easily and found the survey marker locator sign. However under torchlight we did not find the survey marker. we returned the next morning and found it very quickly. Three photos have been added to the Gallery: the survey marker; the survey locator sign and the Brabazon point light as it flashed at night. Thanks for the cache.

Visited this Trig site while in the area

We were in the area locating five new caches and picking up a few caches that we hadn't found and this was one of them. It was blowing a gale at the boat ramp near the Three hut trig we had done earlier but it was a lot calmer here. The trig was just about a drive by. We have been here previously looking for a cache. We enjoyed our trip around the Channel area. It is always a lovely spot to visit again. The required photo has been added to the gallery. TFTT

I had been to this point before looking for a cache that is no longer here.

Today on a trip around the channel I drove to the parking spot on the point and very quickly found RM1 2.6m from the HEC pole.
I then walked out to the navigation light that is RM5.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best but had a great day.
