Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

A quick stop by here between a bus and a train. Took the happy snap, then found myself taking note photos of sculptures and artworks on the way to the station. Nice.

We're staying in Brisbane this weekend, we grabbed this on our way to dinner at a friend's house....

I really enjoy these types of finds, in a nerdy kind of way haha. Even before I was introduced to GCA Trig Point finds I always enjoyed coming across them. And now I know what CORS are! I had an appointment nearby so made the time to visit this one. I plan to find a lot more of these now that I’ve worked out how to incorporate them into my Cachly app.
Cheers

An easy CORS to see though the flagpoles at the front of the Council building almost look like a row of tall CORS...(or is that CORSES?). Found on a day of caching in Brissie. TFTT GCA

Out grabbing some caches in the area and thought we’d come here on our way out of town. A lovely sunny day but wind has some chill to it

I hadn't seen that this location had been published and I was driving past the area when the Nuvi GPS gave a ping. I checked the reason and saw that this cache was in the net street so I took a detour and headed to the area.

I was not sure which was the CORS equipment so I googled to see what I was looking for and then spotted the mast sticking up above the Council Building.

My view of the CORS is added.

Late this afternoon we located the Cleveland CORS on a mast fixed to the front of the Redland City Council building. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks for the cache.
