Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

Another CORS to mark of the list. This one is very shiny and quite prominent and easy to spot. Makes a nice change from some of the ones on top of hospitals and the like were you need to park in just the right spot and climb on top of the cat to get a glimpse.
Thanks for listing this CORS

I visited the Ballina CORS today after finding a nearby cache. It is a nice afternoon with the sun was setting over the river. The cache is easy to find and in a good location close to town. Thanks for the cache.

I joined Geocaching Australia about two months ago. At the time I was quite busy with work and studies. I also didn't know where to start or what to do to look for my first cache. I was on a day trip to Ballina and searched for nearby caches. I read the logs and viewed the photos for the Ballina CORS and was slightly more confident that I knew what I was looking for. So today I have been rewarded with my first geocacher find!

so a short time ago I found this nice place to park whilst waiting for people to finish at places like tattoo parlors and it was only today I realised there was a CORS right behind me. so I did what needed to be done.

Thanks.

Even though I have the GCA app installed on my phone, I don't often think to open it when I'm out and about. I did, however, remember to do so today as I sat on the balcony of the unit we are staying in here in Ballina, and what did I see .... this cache just 100m or so away. Thanks to the pictures posted by previous finders, I was able to recognise what I had to photograph when I walked down the lane to GZ a bit later. TFTC.

Only that we knew better, it looked like Ballina CORS was on a private house. Stopped for a quick photo before going to the beach for some surf cams.

Down in Ballina today for work, and was driving past this area so decided to stop and log me a Trig. East to find, attached to the Department of Lands building. Was great to see the rain while I was in town - its been months since it's fallen previously.

#GA2705 - 17:15; Day four of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After leaving the Mega yesterday afternoon and caching our way to Taree where we spent the night at a local caravan park, the plan for today was to cache our way north past Port Macquarie, then through Kempsey, Macksville, Urunga, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Casino, Lismore and into Ballina in preparation for some caching around Byron and the Tweed before setting sail south again for home. Although not part of the original itinerary, I was able to collect a few more caches in Taree, which Sdl had picked up on previous visits. On our way in to Grafton, we saw that there were traffic delays near Woodburn which we might get caught up in if we stuck to the highway, so after finishing our caching mission there we decided to continue along Summerland Way through to Casino instead. After collecting a couple of trigs in Casino, it was through to Lismore then down the hill and into Ballina for the night. Stopped to grab a snap of this CORS on the way through town to the caravan park. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus
