Description

A surprising find at the local cemetery. Please take a photo of something in the area.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is usually accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Passing through with geovan in tow, we detoured off the hwy to find this cache. Snapped the required pic which has been added to the gallery.

Definitely the smallest trig we have ever found and a fitting memorial for a surveyor.

I have been really looking forward to seeing this one. What a cool tribute to a surveyor.

On the road from Bendigo to Ballarat. It was wet and cold, so we did less trad caches, and more virtuals/ALs/ECs....
Wow, the strangest trig I've ever found. Walking through the cemetery I was curious for sure....

Ohhh, so cute. A great location and very interesting to read the details of the TrigPoint owner.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for this one to both The Morris and Geocaching Australia.

What an unusual but wonderful trig. I will certainly share this information with my sister who lives nearby. Thanks for publishing this cache which brought me more history of this place. Big congratulations to the trustees for honouring this man so appropriately. Thanks The Morris for the trig cache. ClappingDancing

This was certainly a very unexpected but very apt memorial to William Weston Howe. Before coming to this location we had not heard of the man and certainly had not heard about the significant contribution he had made to his profession and the community. We have added a photo to the Gallery showing Mrs y'stassie next to the head of the grave. As there are no other logs of this cache, we will claim FTF at 11:25am. Thanks The Morris for finding this unique location and for arranging for this cache to be published.
