Description

Classic old trig point with cairn, timber post and name-stamped semi-circle vanes which are no longer attached to the post.

Official Code: TS902
Official Name: Bickan

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.
Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

I needed to get out and play today. I had the day off work. I decided to check out the Goonoo Forest area. My plans were to just drive around as my knee is still buggered from Duck Hunting. But I couldn't help myself when I drove so close to a waymark I'd placed on my Hema HX1. And there was even a dirt/mountain bike trail there that could possible go directly to it.

So out of the car I hopped, not jumped, camera and water in my backpack, not like a previous accidental trig find, and down the track I hobbled. The track wound this way and that but in the general direction of the trig. The waypoint coordinates I gathered from six maps was leading me back downhill from what I felt was the highest point of the track. Thinking cap on, I looked around for the highest ground, although the rise and fall was barely distinct, and I headed into the bush. I was surprised to find some random spiky vegetation that reminded me of giant heath blocking my way. I wove around it this way and that and then suddenly and so close to my right I spotted it - A sandstone cairn as tall as myself. Where did they collect all these rocks from? I didn't recall passing more than 2 on my way in - maybe they were all here now. haha. Up I climbed and uncovered the vanes from the leaf litter. Sadly the vanes didn't have a heap of cool old logs on it like a few I've found, but there was the name stamped on a couple of the blades. BICKAN. Photos were snapped and video captured.

Made my day. DancingClan Griffin
