Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

Albion CORS

The Albion CORS is located on the roof of the C. R. Kennedy and Company building, 80 Kingsford smith Drive, Albion, QLD

So I’m on route to pick up my new shiny iPhone.. kind of.. long way.. just because. And I wanted a GCA Trigpoint find haha.

Looks like the building has gone through a refurb. It’s surrounds are currently a construction site so I walked around the block to find the best photo opportunity. All the gear on top of the building is still there. Image taken. Thanks for the cache.
Cheers

In Brisbane for a couple days and headed out to grab a few caches. Parked in the nearby street and after a short wander around, the CORs could just be seen. Photo was taken between the tree branches so as to see the trig, but all was and the photo's were snapped.

It has taken us some time to work through all the photos we took whilst on our major excursion to get to Brisbane (for a family wedding) via Echuca, Griffith, Cobar, Bourke and Stanthorpe. It was a great trip, one which we will remember for a long time because of the very different landscape types that we went through, the unique characters of each of the towns visited, the wildlife (we hadn't seen very large flocks of emu roaming before)and the different community activities and tourist features.

Whilst travelling towards the airport in Brisbane we located the CORS antenna on the roof of the C. R. Kennedy & Co building. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: the first shows Mrs y'stassie with the building and an indistinct CORS antenna on top (between the leaves of the tree); the second shows the same building but with the CORS antenna distinct against the cloudy sky. Thanks for the cache.
