Description
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Our second ever GCA and in another outlandish out of the way location. First one was at the Gordon Dam site, and now this one on top of the South Sister. Previous posts gave us the right ideas, and we certainly enjoyed the views from a potentially very windy GZ Thanks for helping to send us to this location.
We enjoyed the walk up to the fire tower even though it was cool and the rocks were wet and slippery. The pipe rails were very cold and any puddles were frozen solid. The view at the top made up for the discomfort of frozen hands. It was magic. Clear skies and a 360 degree panorama.
We have added three photos to the gallery, one of Mrs Y'stassie on the fire-tower walkway and a second showing the state trig marker button on the rock and the third Mrs y'stassie pointing to the marker.
A quick stop and examining of the map showed he was in fact correct with the caches being 5kms North of us, so we heading up Top Marshes Road and then along Germantown Road until we turned left onto the track to South Sister. The roads to the track were good dirt roads and we made good time but we had to slow down a bit when we got on the track, the last few meters to the car park were the worst but we made it ok.
It was a short walk to the top and we wanted to find the cache before we lost the light, the GC cache was a quick and easy find but the GCA was a tough one with us ringing a couple of the last finders to ask for help, both provided different information and it took a number of searches and calls before the Toolman came up with the goods in a place I had already searched......
We were very pleased with ourselves let me tell you, next we dashed off to the trig point on the other high point, we wanted to get this fast as it was starting to get dark now, we found it within moments of getting to GZ and now it was just to task of getting down to the car again.
An uneventful trip back to the car before long we were back on the black stuff.
The views were stunning and the sunset amazing, this is a must do cache rich area well worth coming to.
Found on a trip to the East Coast. Magnificent views of the coast after climbing to the top.

This lookout cabin seems to have changed quite significantly since my last visit up here - it's now full of radio equipment! I doubt much fire spotting is done here anymore.
Found the marker just below the platform on the Rock and took the required photos.
Thanks for another trig!
After a satisfying day last Saturday climbing St Patricks Head it was off again to the sunny east coast where South Sister was waiting to be climbed.South Sister is 842m high and gives commanding views along the east coast, both north and south and back inland.
My last visit here was to find a gc cache...but back then gca trigs weren't listed as geocaches and for some odd reason, this trig had not been previously listed, until now.
Back then I had my trusty canine companion with me...aka sirius....but sadly his age now precludes him from doing any more bushwalks and mountain climbs, but as soon as I had put my hat and boots on, Murder(the younger of the two canine family....4 yo) started to get pretty excited as he just loves both bush walking and travelling around in the geo fourby.
My eldest canine...Sirius...is now too old(16.9 y.o.) to leave the comfort of his bed in front of the wood heater...which has an electric blanket of course(which he just loves and is great for his arthritis). Having walked 100's of km's with me geocaching over the years up numerous mountains, bush walking along many trails plus along vast stretches of beaches etc while geocaching, he has certainly earned his rest..an amazing companion who never gave up no matter how hard it got for him...a truly remarkeable and treasured companion.
So now Murder has the opportunity to retrace the footsteps of his elder canine mate...sirius.
After almost 3 hrs of driving we finally arrived at the parking bay at the end of a rough and ready track.
From here it's a steady climb up rock steps and towards the cabin, many wooden ladders.
Murder with his long legs bounded up with ease, though mostly rock hopping and avoiding the ladders until going back on the lead for the last ladder to the cabin as there are considerable vertical drops from there.
The views from up here on a clear day are absolutely awesome and I think better than those on St Patricks Head.
After Murder stood in for his photo opp, it was a quick decent back to the geo4by where the journey was set to continue to find some other trigs. An excellent spot, well worth the effort and highly reccommended....cheers ST.
After much map perusal and field checking a FTF is claimed.
