Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

I had to cross the road to the corner opposite to see this. TFTC.

Hard to get a good photo of this one. In the end I jumped up on the bark garden opposite to get a bit of extra height.
Mr Beetle stayed on the footpath below.
After taking the required photo we returned to the van and as we were driving off noticed a place where we would have got a better photo.
Thanks.

In Ballarat for the day whilst house sitting in Creswick. Dancing

Whilst enjoying the architecture of this lovely city, I grabbed opportunistic photos of GCA’s and Waymarks. A pleasant day for caching.
The thing I love about caching is the interesting stories, the extra interest and attention you take when traveling, the sight-seeing, the history, the interests of the individual CO’s, *the fantastic photo opportunities* and sometimes finding places that even some locals don’t know about. I, like most cachers, look for more than a mint tin or a container under a bush. I appreciate the time that most CO’s take to construct a cache and write up a comprehensive listing and to create an interesting cache. I love traveling this big land of ours. I love taking the roads less travelled. I love the diversity of the land, the different scenes in the different seasons, the fresh air, the open plains, the lofty vistas, and the magnificent waters. I even enjoy the longer scenic walks although I'm not as young and as fit as I used to be. I love the different coffee shops I find. I enjoy the times I cache with others but I usually cache on my own.
Thank you for highlighting this area and for adding this cache to my real-life treasure hunt. Appreciate your efforts. Clapping

In town with nirgalagrin for an event, a CITO, a heap of AdLabs and other caching shenanigans.
Stopped by here on our wander around the CBD. Smile

We're caching in the Ballarat area and this CORS was on our target list. Found GZ and then a good spot to take the required photo. The island in the middle of the road seemed like a good spot as the far side of the road was all fenced off. TFTC

#GA2557 - 12:10; After driving down to Melbourne to bring the geostudent and her friend back for uni, Sol de lune flew in to join me for a days caching and the return journey to Canberra. Our plan was to make finds in as many of the dragonZones in which we were yet to make a find as we could. Today it was time to return home to Canberra, but we would be taking the long way home via Colac, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and a few points in between. The rain started as we headed into Ballarat, so we didn't stay long, just long enough to grab a snap of this CORS before we continued on our journey. Found with LuckyL10n as we headed home, the long way, after a couple of days caching around Melbourne. No problems seeing the CORs as we approached and even managed a park close by. Photos snapped and all as good.

We are now catching up with the photos taken during our last trip to Adelaide. On the way home we called into Ballarat and located this CORS antenna on the DSE building. The required photo has been added to the Gallery and shows Mrs y'stassie standing in front of the DSE Building with the CORS antenna visible on the roof behind. Thanks for the cache.
