Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

We have been sorting through photos taken during our previous mainland trip and we came across our photos of the Woori Yallock2 CORS. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: a photo with Mrs y'stassie standing in front of the buildings with the CORS antenna on top; and a closer view of the CORS antenna. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

Finally ticked off the list.

Day 2 of a 3 day road trip with LuckyL10n around the eastern parts of Victoria and part of the trip plan was to visit, photograph and publish a few CORs that aren't on GCA yet. This was our next stop and after a bit of checking from various angles, this one was spotted. Photo's were duly snapped and we off to the next port of call.

A great few days on the road.....road works not counted. Rolling EyesRolling Eyes

#GA2165 - 16:10; Day two of a caching run through eastern Victoria with Sol de lune to build on our July trip further to the west. After a night in Traralgon, today sees us head through the Latrobe Valley, Baw Baw, South Gippsland and on to the Bass Coast before heading north through Cardinia, Yarra Ranges into Murrundindi and an overnight in Alexandra. After visits to Morwell, Moe, Darnum and Ellinbank, then after many kilometres of driving through roadworks, Wontaggi and Newhaven. A DNF on a GC cache in Officer was disappointing, but we collected some more trigs on our way to Woori Yallock and this CORS. A bit of research before heading off from home revealed the existence of some hitherto unpublished CORS along our route, so we decided that we should seek to establish their existence since we were passing anyway. Another CORS and another *FTF* for the effort. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus
