Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We were on a trip down south and took the time to walk up this hill on the way. No issues with access as far as the boom gate and then a short walk up to the top. Nice views today.

It's a bit of a hike from the gate to the fire tower but so worth it. The views are amazing all the way around. TFTT

We were at Buckland finding 5 new caches while the car was being seviced at Cambridge and we decided to head to Mt Hobbs to find this trig and 2 GC caches to fill in a bit more time. Mr W raced up the road to the trig while Mrs W walked to the first GC. The views from the top were great (according to Mr W) and he found the GC cache as well. So three caches on one hill. TFTT

As the decscription for this trig is the fire tower and all but two have been to the listed trig I have made the following changes.

I have changed the name and coordinates to represent the trig as listed in the description and most of the photos in the gallery.

After getting a mud map from the lovely lady at the Woodsdale museum I drove up to the gate where I left the car and walked up the hill to the firetower.
I looked at the GPS and it said I was still 40 meters away so I clambered over the fallen trees and found the trig point and took the required photos.
After looking at the trig description I went back to the fire tower and took a photo of that trig as well.

My Whole purpose for going out today was to get this trig point. It is the only trig I was missing in the southern midlands council area.
After one mistake in attempting to drive to the starting point, I found the gate locked.
The first 200 metres of the walk were fairly hard. But eventually, the track levelled out to a degree and the walk was easier.
After arriving at the GZ, I took some time to take in the great view.
It certainly is a great view (especially from halfway up the fire tower)
Great Location and I highly commend others to do this walk. To this end I have placed a few caches on the track.

The weather today was perfect for the assault on this cache
Had a round trip of 315 km in the car: Huonville to Woodsdale, to Buckland for lunch, to Orford and back to Huonville
I found two Trigs as was the plan which required I walk 11.61 km using 15613 steps and burning 1940 calories

Had looked at doing this cache on previous occasions but never went for it
Today, I tried a few different approaches to get as close as possible by car, but they were unsuccessful
Followed Swampy's directions after that and was soon at the boom gate
The walk was great, quiet time in the bush; but my ascent was not as quick as Tas32's
Arrived at the summit and Sainted the TRIG at 1140 hours
Took some time to enjoy the scenery and the nearby structures
The walk back to the car was faster than the ascent - all down hill; that's why!!
TFTC and cheers

Nice easy 15 minute walk from boom gate. Thanks swampy for the coordinates to get me to the boom gate.

Found in the company of redtag/mouse and VK7HCH.
An interesting drive up here today - the gate was open (bonus) and he weather was great!
Had a good look around before eating something for lunch.
There is a lot of TFS infrastructure here - maybe it should be called Mt Hub?
The views are fantastic - Mt Wellington, Table Mountain and around to Shouten Island in the east.
