Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

Official name of this Trig Station as per SmartNet Australia is WNGA.  Baker Street, Wangaratta, Victoria.

We've been at the Rutherglen mega, and headed this afternoon to Bendigo, we didn't have alot of time, so prioritised trigs and virtuals, and maybe any *really* cool DTs for the trip. This was tricky to spot. We got it from the shopping centre carpark....

Wangaratta Mega trip Day 2. It has taken quite some time to get this trip going so it is a great feeling to be on the road for a great weekend away with great caching with friends and new friends. Today was a day in two parts. I spent the morning with Nibbletricecakes, Gliss! & Smitten Granny doing as many of the city LAB caches as possible. So much variety there. We did a few of the caches we came across along the way. The after noon we were joined by Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK and headed down to Glenrowan to do the Ned Kelly caches. We also did the labs in Glenrowan before heading back to Wangaratta for a few high D/T caches. This was a great way to spend the day before the Mega !

Thanks
Albida

Another GCA one checked off my list whilst in Wangaratta. I find it difficulty to gather goo self images of myself and the required object at times but I do have a go. Must remember to pack my selfie stick in future. TFTC Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurVery HappyVery Happy

We're caching in the Wangaratta area today trying to find as many GCA caches as possible in our limited time here. Found our way to GZ, not where you'd expect a CORS maybe. TFTC

After taking the required photo we stocked up on a few essentials while here too.
Thanks.

Found the cache while passing through the town. Travelling from Perth to Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra with the final destination being Jindabyne. We stopped off at a nearby motel for the night. As we have a quiet day travel wise I decided to pick up a few local caches before heading out on the road again. Today's itinerary included Glenrowan, Gundagai and Canberra.

Another short detour on the way home....no problems grabbing the required photo.

19-Feb-18
Travelling on our way to a GC event at Wodonga I asked my chauffeur dalerious to make a slight detour to enable me to capture this along the way. I'm very glad I did, because he spotted this before I did, and was able to position the car for me to take the photo. Unfortunately the sun was in the wrong direction at that time in the morning but it is possible to make out the CORS in the background.
Looking at photos from a previous log made it easier to see what we were looking for. I've found a couple of these now and they've been different shapes
Thanks Geocaching Australia for including these, it adds a new dimension to our journeys - so often we look all around us as we travel, but rarely look up!

A nice warm one in Wangaratta, especially on the sun soaked bitumen if Woolies' carpark where I grabbed the photo.

The best hidden CORS I've come across.

TFTC GCA.

#GA2228 - 14:45; I was headed to Melbourne with the geoteen when we stopped off in Wangaratta to see if we could locate this CORS. We parked in the carpark near Woolies and I spotted some antennae on a local government building, so headed over to have a look. I couldn't see a CORS among the other paraphernalia on the roof so headed back to the car. I should have just looked up whjen I hopped out of the car, as there in front of me about 20 metres away on the roof of a small brick building backing onto the carpark was the CORS I had been looking for. Nice to add another *FTF* as well! Grabbed a couple of snaps before heading across the road to the local cathedral. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus
