Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Staying at Triabunna we decided to walk to this trig, A good beach walk, then a bit of a search to find the disc.

The weather today was perfect for the assault on this cache
Had a round trip of 315 km in the car: Huonville to Woodsdale, to Buckland for lunch, to Orford and back to Huonville
I found two Trigs as was the plan which required I walk 11.61 km using 15613 steps and burning 1940 calories

Had looked at doing this cache on previous occasions but never went for it
Today, I was determined to complete this one
Had walked this beach before in search of another cache, which was found on that occasion
Took a turn to the right just a little early and had an interesting walk through the dunes to the star picket
Was very watchful while doing this - luckily no stick wrigglers were seen
Sainted the cache at 1500 hours
Took a shorter way back to the beach than that used to get in
Weather was still great, albeit dark clouds had come over the area
Once back at the car, it was into Orford to collect Annie and then drove back to Huonville via a friends home
TFTC and cheers

Now that someone has well just about found it Ill log a find.

I was caching on the East Coast and had come here to find another cache nearby and possibly a friends GPS.
As there was some muggles near the cache I continued along the beach to see if I could find this trig point.
I found a spot where I could easily make my way up and over the sand dunes to the trig I soon spotted the star picket near the trig and widened the search to find the brass plaque on top of the dune.

I knew this one would be easy to find as I have been here geocaching before. Just a nice walk along the beach and then a short walk into the dunes to find the trig.
