Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
This Trig Point is on PRIVATE PROPERTY.
I have spoken to the property owner. She told me to walk past the gate at the end of the road that has the private property trespases prosecuted sign on it and follow the coast to the point.
The owner can be found at "EARLHAM" you will see it as you drive in if you want to ask.
Logs
An easy walk to GZ, great views of Maria Island, a cold windy day.
I was caching on the East Coast and thought I would go and see if I could get to this cache.
I found my way to the end of the road and saw the Private Property sign and thought that was it. As I was driving out I noticed a group of people outside one of the shakes so I pulled over and asked if they knew of the owner so I could ask permission to go out to the point. They informed me who the owners was and said they go out there all the time and were about to go on a walk if I wanted to join them.
We walked along the paddocks to the point along the way talking about caching survey marks and geocaching.
At the point the others left me as I set about trying to find the marker as they were leaving they suggested I look at the gulch near by.
After a bit of searching I eventually found the marker and took some photos before walking down to the gulch.
On my way out I stopped off at the owners who were happy.
