Description

Bald Hill

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs

Came up here to explore a bit more than I have before. Good 24 hours. Camped overnight at the Village. Drove around to a bunch of lookouts, this one included obviously.

After visiting the Bridle Track Lookout I waited for a group of 8 4wds to pass on Bridle Track before joining them at the back directly behind the Hema Maps #1 4wd (pic attached from end/beginning of the road). I thought that was pretty cool. Didn't recognise any other 4wds there but I don't follow things like 4wd action or other 4wd shows anymore so can't be sure if they'd been filming along the Bridle Track or not. I'm going to have to return just to do that Track. Shame is not open all the way through anymore.

There are a lot of holes around here!!! I like finding treasure when digging holes. Seems to be a recurring theme in my life from very early childhood. Maybe I should consider retiring to mining somewhere like this, or maybe black opal country, my fave stone I've never yet owned.

Pics attached. I took some video too but can't upload that here. I'm still considering whether to make a YouTube video or not. Who knows. If I do it would be valentines day themed. I hate valentines day. I hate the pressure to have to buy things for your loved one when you can buy things every other day of the year for them. And flowers are overrated. And chocolates, well if your on a diet you can't do those either. Okay, maybe I'm just being cynical because I've been solo too long. Haha.

Staying the night in Hill End and doing a number of caches this morning. Coming up here was the first stop of the day.

A very cold day to be out chasing Trigs with GLiSS! Some had budding scientists visiting them and others, like this one, were a little quieter. As we travelled around, I realised we had already visited this Trig back in January. This time I’ll remember to log!!!

Sophoutloud and I spent a few days camping with friends at Hill End and then because of the very wet weather that came in on Sunday night they decided to bail and head home early so we had the day to fill by ourselves so what better way to do that but explore a new area and bag some fresh Trig points around Hill End and Bathurst. I have to say all the Trigs we found today were in Amazing condition, I am not sure wether they get repaired here more often or are just vandalised less out here. Either way it was great to see. This was the first of the day as we left camp and was a fun little drive up the hill. Unfortunately due to the weather we weren't able to see the view from here.

Nice views from up here. Glad I checked to see if there was a GC cache.

Had a lovely long weekend out at Hill end. Went to the lookout to find the GC cache and was surprised to see a Trig point there too - bonus!

Mudgee trip for The Road Less Traveled series. Day 3. Sofala to Mudgee via Hill and lots more back roads. Wow, it is not often to find a full trig that the more advanced trig hunters have not located, especially as it is marked on the 25k map series. Oh well, I am not complaining, two new trigs *FTF*

Thanks
Albida
