Description

CORS (Continually Operating Reference Stations) collecting geodetic data from GNSS.

A CORS is a Continuously Operating Reference Station. CORS can take the place of a traditional base station used in differential GNSS positing. They can give an instant position to an accuracy of ±20 mm and are used in many industries including Precision Agriculture, Construction, Mining, Surveying and in Scientific Research.

Typically, the maximum distance between a base station and rover GNSS set up is around 10 - 15 km. This is due to the effect of the atmosphere on the GNSS signals as they travel from the satellite to a GNSS receiver.

With the establishment of a network of CORS, the distance between the base and the rover can be extended. The CORS can be spaced around 70 km apart and using at least 3 of these CORS, the atmospheric effects can be modelled and corrected for, yielding the ±20 mm position solution required by so many industries.

More info on CORS can be found here: CORS

To grab this third trig for the morning, I hadto drive back out to the road. It is hard enough to see anything, but in this fog, it was even more difficult. I found it while travelling home after visiting my muggle sister further south. TFTT Geocaching Australia and for Quest which has motivated me to do more GCA caching. We traversed Bendigo a few times today chasing all sorts of stuff, mainly trigs and stuff that got in the way of getting between them of course!
Last one for today.... shot from across the road on the car dealers fence, we needed some extra height to see it peeking over....

We're travelling from Echuca to Bendigo today caching as we go. This CORS was on our target list and was a quick find when we reached GZ. TFTC

Heading from Echuca this afternoon to Kyneton. So many GCA caches in Bendigo but we didn't have much time so we randomly chose 8 to do.
This was the first.
Our photo was taken from the fence as when we tried to get closer we lost the CORS.
It is hard to see in our photo and I would draw a circle around it if I knew how to do that!!!!
It is to the left of the tallest tower on the roof above the pink flowering bushes.
Thanks.

A quick find while visiting Bendigo. The closest GCA to the caravan park. TFTT

Another flying trip to Bendigo to pick up and drop off "stuff" for our daughter.
Although we've driven past this CORS many dozens of times over recent months we've never noticed it. It was purely a coincidence that I spotted it on the map and we could make a quick stop for a difficult photo.

Whilst preparing for this trip we looked at the SmartNet Aus site and noticed that this CORS existed but had not been published nor logged. Today, during a brief visit to Bendigo, we checked out the location and after some hunting around, located the CORS antenna. It is in the middle of a group of buildings, well away from public access but it is still easily seen from the front of the building. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. The CORS antenna is highlighted in the photo for clarity. Thanks for the cache.
