Description

ACT's own Testline!

Testlines are scattered around the country, with those in NSW listed on SIX maps listed as Trig points. In fact, the NSW Govt keeps a list of them, even those that have been decomissioned [1]. It would seem that the ACT has one of it's own - and a substantially bigger one at that!

Interestingly, this ACT Testline shows up on the NSW Spatial Services website as a testline, though they do not show up on ACTMapi as survey markers.

Given that their counterparts in NSW do, it's not much of a stretch to suggest that they should be listed as Trigs - so here we are.

To claim these markers, take a photo of yourself and/or GPS unit at the trig point. Parking can be found at S35° 14.360' E149° 9.908'

Sophoutloud and I are exploring Canberra, I think it is quite a beautiful and unique city (not sure why it cops so much flack) Gotta love these modern baselines a quick 11 trig grab almost feels like cheating when I have spent a day walking just to get 1 but none the less we had to snatch them up. a nice and easy walk between them on a great day and there were plenty of others out enjoying the sunshine

14-Jul-20
out for exercise and decided to grab these markers. Thanks

While running errands in the area, took the opportunity to complete the Watson EDM Testline series on a second visit after doing the first half back on a smokey Sunday in Jan 2020. Now of course the circumstances are quite different with the isolation environment we are all living in. Happily though the Testline remains safely in place. Parked the geo-bug nearby and bolted straight to number 7 and then to number 8 to make the furtive snap looking back along the earlier half of the line, while lots of dog walkers were distracted by the antics of their pooches. Found at 15:58 as dark and looming clouds appeared from the west.
Thank you for the trig cache, really enjoyed visiting no 8 this afternoon.
Cheers

Big Grin With my original plans for the long weekend being cancelled, I decided on taking a look at Geo-events that were around. I discovered a nearbyish CITO in Canberra. I had a bit of a catch up with people while also meeting lots of others for the first time. Nice to meet/re-meet you all. After attending the event a group of us took a run around the area collecting caches that have been on the solved plie for quite some time plus a few lone caches that were nearby. Most of these caches were the newish Harry Potter mystery caches. Even though I don’t like HP, I do enjoy caching. After we went our separate ways I took the opportunity to take quick snapshots for the GCA ‘Watson Testline Trig-points’. That gave me an extra 11 finds added to my GCA finds total. Next it was time for some grub before leaving Canberra. Earlier in the day I received a couple of emails telling me of some new caches one of which was on my way home in Binalong a quick stop off here and a FTF was made. Just as I was getting into my car someone else pulled up behind me and I met TheTreeWhisperer for the first time. Nice to meet you. After getting home, I had some dinner and ask Swimmagurl if she would like to join me to attempt a FTF out the Wagga road. She agreed to come and when we arrived at GZ we made a quick find. The only question remained was it a joint FTF? When opening the logbook we found we were the FTF. Now time to head home again. TB visit on all caches and on logbooks/sheets, I signed as 24/1 JM, 24/1 JohnoM or 24/1 JohnoMawbs depending on the size. Most caches were quick finds and a great day was had by all. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today for placing them so I and others can enjoy. Big Grin TFTC’s and TFTTP’s Big Grin

I did this series today to complete a goal of 50 trigs. I have been sitting on 49 for a while now and this series let me overshoot by ten. It was a straightforward walk although I felt that the high voltage lines overhead may have affected my GPS at times. It also allowed me to sort out a problem with my GPS. (Aldi batteries seem to be slightly smaller than other brands and I had to wrap tape around them to stop them coming loose.) Someone must feed the magpies along this track because they followed me closely singing out for a treat. Very Happy

PS The pictures may seem a little repetitious. I placed my GPS at the base of each one. It is a good thing that they are numbered. One also had an envelope which had a clue to a treasure hunt but I did not follow this up. The walk also included passing several of the "normal" yellow concrete survey markers so it is an overly surveyed area.

Their are some lovely old trees here too and lots of birds. TFTC

Having ridden past these so many times, I finally remembered to look up what these may be. Hooray, survey markers!
