Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and photograph it.

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Namoona
Serial number is: 12037

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies. This one was found while driving along the Summerland Way, between Kyogle and Casino. The local Cattle Station is named after it: Namoona Trig Bulls

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property, and you are unable to gain permission for access, or in a dangerous location, you may Archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Saw this trig point clearly from the road. We looked about briefly for a closer access, but despite seeing the sign to the Trig Stud, this was the best we could do during our through journey to Kyogle.
Thanks for the trig point listing.

Continuing my southern adventure I’m looking forward to visiting the Trig up the hill from Kyogle Lookout. But first a quick stop here. I don’t like long distance Trig finds but I really like the images I took here so I’m happy with that haha. Now let’s get to this lookout because it’ll be dark soon..
Thanks for the cache.

I was hoping to find the Namoona trig before sunset at the time about 15 minutes away. I'd read the logs before arriving so I was prepared for a long distance shot. I was pleasantly surprised to see a sign for Namoona Trig Senepol Stud which was a much better photo opportunity.

I drove up Collins Road the nearest to the trig and yes it is located on private land. The sun was setting by this stage and I drove back along Summerland Way to find a vantage point for the trig photo. I'd brought along my camera with zoom lens and stopped beside the road looking conspicious. I put my camera down and sipped coffee when cars came along. The trig is a minute speck on the horizon but the magnificent orange sunset driving back to Casino was worth the effort.

As stated by Matty Rx (previous finder), this trig is easily spotted from the Summerland Way. Very Happy
Thanks Geocaching Australia.
