Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out for the day with Tassie Trekkers Mr.T. I think his log sums it up pretty well. Hard work but a great sense of achievement and satisfaction Very Happy

Today Mr T & Mr T (Triumph Twins) spent some time navigating their way to this trig. Literally no track, rock hopping and bush bashing the last 300 metres, a 40 min slog up from the track junction, and 20 mins back down. Need to be a keen geocacher to attempt this one. Once at the top, they enjoyed the views. They both ended up soaked from the over hanging bushes, and leeches were a bit too friendly also, definitely a memorable walk.

After taking a while to get to the other nearby trig (Mt Victoria ST772 - TP2753), I slowly made my way over to the western side.
Even though there were rock cairns scattered along the way, it was still very difficult to traverse across the ridge, just to get to the radio repeater. The cairns are spaced too far apart and there is no track - all rock hopping and occasionally bush bashing a way through.
Eventually I made it to the repeater and checked out the visitors log and the plaques on the box.
The trig was still further away and there are no markers, cairns or tape once you summit near the repeater.
I had to climb down steep sections, bash my way through, around and over rocks to get to the trig.
This took me 40 minutes to travel about 420m. Once there, I set about finding 2 of the RMs and, of course, the trig itself. Numerous pictures were taken then I started the trek back to the trail and down the mountain. It took about another 40 minutes to get back to the repeater, finding the cairns across the face and then some Swampy caching to arrive back at the track near the last steel post I found on the way up.
All up the two trigs took me 4 hours from the carpark and back.
An enjoyable day with the sun shining and just a hint of a breeze at the top.
