Gallery of log for Castra Falls Circuit - Castra Cascades
After crossing Big Log we continued along the track. We were glad to see Sirius pink tape as the track became had to locate is some places. After crossing the little bridge, no trolls today but we were pleased the wooden bridge had a chicken wire top as the wood was wet and very slippery, we headed upwards towards a ridge. The fungi on the logs, attached to the trees and at our feet continued to change and kept the camera busy. We even found a small group of finger nail sized bright red caps. old man's beard began to appear on some of the trees, both living and dead. The forest looked enchanting. However, in places, the forest floor and path were treacherous.
When we were 23m from GZ we found ourselves at the junction of the Castra Falls Circuit track and the track to Castra Cascades. The latter headed straight down hill towards the creek below - no ropes here. Mrs Y's Tassie headed down guided by pink tape. At one point she slightly over stepped and lost her footing resulting in a sideways skid of about 5m down a clayy section of the steep track. She slowly picked herself up checked for damage - none found so off to the cache, trousers covered in orange clay.
There were several large trees near by so she circumnavigated each one just in case before reaching GZ where, on pocking her head around the vast trunk she had an exhilarating Aha! feeling and there was an exquisite hiding spot reminiscent of the hide at 'Shorty's upper Rapid River blackfish hole' on the West Coast. Container was carefully extracted. The container and contents were in excellent condition and the log was blank giving us a third {FTF} at 11:40.
After carefully returning the cache and replacing its camo it was time to make her way to the water and take a few photos of the Cascade before carefully making her way back up to the track junction. This would have to be the favourite hide in this great series.
Thanks Sirius Tas for a great cache hide and a thoroughly enjoyable but challenging series. This one is certainly worth more than 5 thumbs up.
