Gallery of log for Lookout, Which Direction?
Unlike most, this lookout & orientation table on Lord Howe Island is virtually at sea level, providing the direction & distance to various other places - most hundreds or even thousands of miles away. The only visible landmark is Balls Pyramid, 17 miles away (although it is not actually visible from this part of the island, because it is obstructed by Mt Gower). The orientation table is dedicated to William Spurling Thompson, 1868-1953, an early island administrator and forefather of conservation. (Details taken from my waymark of the same category.)
