The Darling downs used to be well known for grain crops and cattle and sheep. Just recently coal has been found west of Dalby all the way out to Miles and of course natural gas has also been found and is being developed. there is a coal load out facility at Macilster where this train was seen and there is another Coal mine further west closer to Chinchilla. The Coal from here is taken by train to the port at Brisbane but that might change in the future when and if the Melbourne to Darwin railway line is opened. The link to be built is from Wandoan to Taroom and then to Banana and then to the port of Gladstone. Of course the existing line will also need to be upgraded.
