We really weren't sure what this cache was all about but we're guessing there must've been a different billboard at the time of the cache placement than what's there now. Looks like folks have broken the locks on the instruments with the controls.

I flew in from Rhode Island and met up with Verdant who flew in from Florida to do a fabulous Blues Highway 61 road trip starting in Nashville, down to Mississippi, stayed at the Shack Up Inn, drove the Great River Road Hwy 1, over to Arkansas back up to Memphis then flew out of Nashville. We did over 1000 miles and had an amazing time seeing all of the sights and enjoying your great caches and fabulous southern comfort food. Thanks!

One of my favorite, quaint lighthouses located in Narragansett Bay just off of Newport, Rhode Island. You can now be the lighthouse keeper by renting the lighthouse for a week at a time.

The Rose Island Lighthouse
A mile offshore and a century in the past
lies the little lighthouse that could.
Beyond the reach of Newport’s utility lines and services, the Rose Island Lighthouse stands as an independent, energy-efficient building that was home to keepers and their families for over a hundred years.

After the Newport Bridge was built the Lighthouse was abandoned and became badly vandalized. Over the course of the next eight years, members of the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation cleaned out and restored it to its 1912 appearance, installing new, environmentally sensitive utility systems for heat, water, sewer and electricity.

On August 7, 1993, when the funds had been raised to pay all the restoration bills, the light in the tower was joyously relit. The Rose Island Light is currently listed on charts as a private aid to navigation, and it is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Rose Island Lighthouse is maintained by keepers who sign on for a week at a time as part of our environmental education program, where people of all ages learn about the Lighthouse’s history and they experience first-hand the keeper’s self-sufficient, resourceful way of life...lessons that last a lifetime.

Our mission: To preserve the historic and environmental integrity of Rose Island, to maintain and operate its Lighthouse and to provide education and public access for all people.

Visiting the NW from Rhode Island for a mini reunion with best friends from our high school in Taiwan. Found this with BigSkyBirder from Montana. Unfortunately, the butterfly house was closed due to renovations so we could not go inside.
