Driven over the gorge road almost every day for the last twenty years but this is only the second visit to the dam....a great place for the family ...shame all the information boards about the dam and flume have been removed.
The dam was built to supply Timaru with water via a flume (ditch) ...if you drive to the top of the gorge and look back to the dam you can see the course of the flume around Mt Horrible and on towards Timaru.
