Logs for raz

Glad you liked the spot!

I've decided to treat having water inside the cache as normal (and therefore to provide the plastic logbook), as this appears to be more sensible than trying seal it and having to deal with the "problem" of it being leaky for several months every couple of years.

Nonetheless I do plan to replace the container during my December visit.

Per Christian's remark I'm gutted that the planned logbook replacement, which was to have occurred just prior to Feathertop's visit, didn't occur on time. It has now gone in. Hopefully future visitors will be able to actually make log entries!

Call for volunteer(s)

I've just logged in to update the description and title of the cache to make clear that maintenance is required and, before submitting, noticed substantial changes in listing guidelines including that the words "Beyond Your Maintainable Distance" now appear as a reason for archiving a cache.

I can see the reasoning behind the requirement but, particularly given the enormously positive comments that visitors to this cache make, I'm loath to archive it on this basis alone. Unfortunately, it really is clearly beyond my "maintainable distance" (I live in the UK at present and only get back home for a few weeks every couple of years), so I'm hoping that among the 20 people watching this cache, some one or more of you are willing to volunteer to take on the role of maintainer. I'm guessing that we can argue for a much slower response time than the "few weeks" suggested by the guidelines, particularly given that it's local to almost nobody and that there hasn't been much difficulty with this cache in the five years since I placed it, but "perhaps I'll get a chance to pop in the Christmas after next" probably isn't adequate.

So, if you are interested and can help, or even if you cannot, comments here or by private message (click on "profile" and "send message") are welcome.

(Presumably the handful of other caches that have subsequently appeared in the vicinity either have the same problem or already have a workable solution and I'm happy to put the problem to the maintainers/watchers of those caches too, but I thought that I'd start with those who care enough to watch this one first.)

MAINTENANCE REQUEST

Sadly, despite my travelling the ~14,000Km to reach the bridge over the Snowy River near Illawong Lodge two weeks ago, time did not permit walking the remaining ~3Km to the cache. Consequently, I've missed the opportunity to perform maintenance on the cache this year.

So, this is an open request to any relatively experienced cachers planning to visit the cache to perform any required maintenance. This may include:

- Replacing failed writing implements (a mix of pens and sharpened pencils is probably desirable).

- Removal and disposal of unsuitable items in the cache. Previous examples include fluids (which risk bursting their containers when freezing) and sticky lollies (which risk melting and running all over everything; this actually occurred a little over a year ago).

- Cleaning/bagging items; take a supply of ZipLock bags. This protects items against water (if the box leaks), bursted fluid containers, melted lollies, ...

- Replacing the box itself if it is no longer water-tight (this is extremely unlikely, but there is an off chance).

Also, if someone has the time, I'd love a (photographic) copy of the log book. I've noticed before that there are more entries in the logbook than on this website.

Thanks in advance.

Maintenance request for Australia's Highest.

Your proposed itinerary looks fantastic and I'd join you if I were in the country. It has been a year since I've managed to visit the cache and I suspect that it may require some maintenance, details are on a note that I've just posted on the cache page; volunteers much appreciated.

I can't quite believe that this cache is being attempted when there's snow around! Anyway, congratulations. It's good to know that it can be found under snow.

Where are you planning to put GEOrge?

Further note to our find. The coca-cola CD holder has fond a new home at Germany's first geocache. See (visit link) for details.

Found without too much difficulty. Very nicely placed.

Took a drink and a coca-cola CD holder (the latter will be included in a cache which I will shortly establish somewhere in Europe).
Left a pick-a-path book and a New Zealand Kiwi letter holder.

My (our, did it with a friend named Anand) first GPS hunt. Looking forward to many more.

Failed to locate.

Found what appeared to be the correct general area, spent a couple of hours scrambling along cliff faces. Could not make sense of the elevation clue.
