Description

Take a photo with Ron and log a find

As we know, all cachers at some time when out in the field need to stop and refuel. A lot of cachers refuel at McDonalds and in some stores they have a statue of Ronald himself, so your mission is to find such a store and get a photo of your self and Ronald with your GPS. You must get a photo of yourself, no kids allowed to stand in for Mum or Dad, get your child to take the photo, include the co-ords in your log. Only one store per cacher and each store can only be logged once. Have fun, oh and maybe a brief rundown on the store you took the pic in, is it a good store, a bad one, is the food good, was the service good. that sort of thing.

Post your photo here!

I visited Maccas today and I finally got a photo with Ronald which allows me to log this cache. TFTC

Disappointed that I cant get this as a find. This has been in the back of my mind for a long time now but the required structure has not presented itself, probably because I don't visit enough stores.
I had to ask for the number on a local facebook group and was helped very quickly.
Great to see one even if I can't claim a find.

Maccas Manuka .... good for frozen drink to cool down with : )

Well look what I found at my local food court while out shopping today! Could almost call this a relic from the past as I have not seen one of these old school Ronalds for ages. All my local stores have had make overs and dont seem to have Ronald on display anymore. This Ronald was not even tucked away in a corner, he is the first thing you see when you walk into the Roselands Shopping Centre Food court!
Can’t give a comment on the store except to say it looked like your standard Maccas food court store, havent eaten here either so cant give a review of the food.

Thanks for a different locationless and some nice points for the SON games Team Gunn Parker.

MrsG trying to slink out of a photo with Ronald. Like the previous finder, Ronald the standing or sitting statue seems to have been superseded with this lurking version.

McDonald's Northam, WA
Me thinks you'll be hard-pressed finding a Ronald statue nowadays, within Australia at least, with all Macca's stores having major refurbishment.

Found on our trip to Merimbula. We have been trying to find Ronald for ages now, but while we were having breakfast at the Merimbula McDonalds, we managed to finally spot him. A fantastic idea for a cache. Thanks! Mr. Green

For the last six weeks we have visited the Scottish restaurant wherever we have travelled hoping to find a Ronald MacDonald. We found some but they had already been logged. Today we happend to see Ronald MacDonald sitting the the playroom at the Wangaratta store. We were quietly confident that this one had not been logged previously and it appears so. It would seem that we can now bypass all Scottish restaurants, thankfully, as this quest has now been achieved. TFTC

Spotted this happy Ronald McDonald in Allen St Brisbane at the Ronald McDonald House .... Ronald McDonald House Charities has been making life easier for seriously ill children and their families in Australia since 1981 - all programs are focused on making the journey to recovery as easy as possible.

GCA 210 - 4280. Bula !! Spotted near my resort in Sunny Fiji !

To good an opportunity not to grab this Ronald in Fiji to claim this Locationless. Food (Brekkie) was good ! Staff very polite as well - plus there is an ATM there.

Geo Kid A had to sit and be photographed. Luckily she was in the mood for this to be done, me sitting next to ronald could be weird. It would be two clowns together!

17-Oct-10
We had some time while waiting for the Queens Land Event to start we decided to go to Macca's for a coffee. We noticed Ronald sitting in the Party Room so we paid him a visit. The kids in the play area thought we were mad Razz

03-Oct-10
Here is Macca's at West Ryde, Sydney. I was unable to get near Ronald due to the number of kids on him. I had to resort to a wide view of the building instead.

01-Sep-10
I finally found a Ronald...I went to a local Maccas only to find it had an upgrade and Ronald was no-longer in residence. But luckily we made a pit stop here on the the way to the Sunshine Coast and guess who was there to greet us!
Yeah finally got this locationless.
Thanks.

Ronald and I shared lunch yesterday while trying to cache, he wasnt much help caching and all he did at lunch was attract some kids over to us.....can't believe I get rid of my kids and go to Maccas - thanks lol

I don't usually stop at this one but had been looking for caches in the area (Drive In and GA locationless) There is a nice lady selling those famous doughnuts here and I showed her what I was doing. After seeing this photo of myself I swore off eating here for at least 6 years. Easy find so well worth the cache! Thanks for the opportunity.

25-Jan-10
This "Ronald" is located on Orchard Rd, right in the middle of Singapore's busy shopping district. I couldn't resist claiming this locationless find here, as I'm not often walking along this road! It's a small store, more like a sidewalk cafe, but they serve all of the standard Maccas food, plus some local versions of burgers... I had a "McSpicy" while I was here.

17-Jan-10
Had to take a break on the way South on the Bruce highway at Burpengary and found some food at the BP South Bound. McDonalds was very busy but Ronald allowed me to have a photo opportunity.

20-Nov-09
We abandoned a picnic and the Christmas Lights Show at Hunter Valley Gardens due to it being closed after a storm went through.
So where else was there to go but McDonalds at Cessnock. And we met Ronald.
Maverick4x4, Shifter Brains, Pesky and Super Snoop are in the photo, and Ronald of course.

27-Sep-09
We found this Ronald in our home town of Bundaberg, in the photo Mr and the 2 little Fudlleys are discussing the finer points of geocaching with him.

Thank you Ronald for an interesting piccie on the tablelands.

Well as the previous finder said, what is life without Maccas?
Logged this one at S17 16.079 E145 28.467 on the way through the Tablelands in North Qld. TFTC

As many others have said, there are lots of McDonalds without a life-sized Ronald so it was good to find one in Bathurst during our weekend of caching up there. McPhan has already logged this cache in Wagga, and Rex is old enough to better so this Ronald was all mine, while the other Canberra cachers just ate breakfast inside and showed no interest. Fortunately so did all the muggles also, while we took this photo. TFTC!

02-Nov-08
We actually took this photo quite some time ago and have only just remembered to log the cache. It took us a while to get the coordinates as the shop is inside the Westfield Shopping Centre at Strathpine. TFTC

Late brekkie at Maccas in Bundoora Vic after a mornings caching with my daughter.

Stopped off at the Ourimbah Twin Servo's (South Bound) for coffee and a muffin on a trip to Canberra with the geo-wife.

Friday evening at Eastland in Ringwood and who did we spot? Ronald of course. Used the little critter as my 'disguise' to capture the moment!

02-Jun-08
This Big M in Beenleigh in Brisbane was just what we needed after four hours of driving.

The traffic jams were continuous and the GPS said we were averaging 25 km/hr over the last 100kms so stopping at one of the these 'service centres' broke the boredom for the kids and provided us with some strong coffee to stay awake.

Found while at Wagga Invasion event. Could have had a team photo but only one log per store - I was quickest

McDonalds Michinbury NSW

Wonder what the muggle was thinking when a grown man asked if he could have his photo taken with Ronald.

This is the McDonald that was build for the Expo 2000 in Hannover. From August 15 to Oktober 30 2000 there where over 1 Mio. guests there

01-Feb-08
This Ronald is in the middle of the biggest shopping centre in Cairns and Mac was having a great discussion about the benefits of geocaching. He was an excellent listener and didn't interrupt once. Top guy.

31-Jan-08
Spotted Ronald at Cnr Northcliffe & Kings Streets, Warrawong NSW

20-Jan-08
Just happened to be passing McDonalds on Bagot Road, Ludmilla and remembered this cache. This store is only 1 of 4 McDonald stores located in Darwin. This store now has a 24 hour drive through which has only just started operating.

Wink 1220 Took older son out to Maccas Taree, and of course there was a load of mums and kids in the play area. I look like someone who should be behind pool fencing when I snuck in there, and the others were wondering what I was doing.
It is usually a nice, friendly and clean Big M.

09-Nov-07
After a pretty crazy time at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, I thought it fitting that this should be the Ron that Laura and I were able to log (by the time we left Melbourne I had lived in the Red-Haired Capitalist Clown's House across the road for two weeks, and eaten at his Restaurant WAY too many times! This store has TWO Ronalds in fact (this one gives more of an idea of the special location, and isn't falling apart quite so badly as the other one!)

Laura was on her way to have some stitches removed; you wouldn't think she had had six hours of major heart surgery a week before this photo was taken!

I'm afraid to say though that this Maccas has to be the worst as far as service and cleanliness is concerned, mainly due to the fact that it was always woefully understaffed! And in all the times I went there (way too many!) the frozen raspberry fizz was always "Re-Freezing"! GWLN (Gained Weight, Left Nothing) TFTC!

Had this cache in mind for when we went overseas on holiday. Found three Ronalds in the one place at the Kuala Lumpur airport. The airport would be the best one I have been through. Had a choice of three photos and evev saw Ronald on a surfboard outside a shop on the beach in Bali. Good cache thanks.

25-Sep-07
Broome McDonalds - A very isolated part of OZ to find this guy.

(Those coords are for a cache at Kilkenny Castle, Ireland). But hey, I did't realise that I needed the coords and it's a bit far to go back, and the castle is just around the corner!!!! (I think!)
I'm not one to frequent Maccas, but my friends with kids do, so what was I to do but go along for the ride? This was the first McDonalds that I went to in Ireland, one of four. When I saw Ronald there, I suddenly remembered...and I CAN say it made my experience there far more exciting. Sat there for a while summoning up the courage. Didn't want to explain the whole thing when my adult friends already think I'm slightly deranged. Then I decided the kids could work to my advantage, and I just pretended I was being the snap-happy friend taking photos of the kids (and letting them have a go of the camera too). They didn't suspect a thing. Oh, and the food was, well, it was McDonalds. It didn't seem overly unique???? Thanks for the cache, though. Gave me some excitement even if no-one else knew about it!!!!!!!!!!

24-Jun-07
This would be the most awkward cache I have done people laughing at a grown man having his picture taken with Ronald, I can't see what is funny about it, after all I am the one with the extra smiley face now.

17-Jun-07
On our way north towards the Sunshine Coast today, when we stopped for a quick comfort break. And would you believe it? There was Ronald waiting to great us. We couldn't let the photo opportunity go by so amid disbeliving stares Mumma NANKS and the geoboys posed and smiled.

We didn't eat here today but have on previous occasions. The quality/speed of service ranges depending on how busy it is. It is the store where we've had our longest ever wait! (and where the 6 yr old geokid dropped a slushie on the floor!)

BUT what a cracker of a cache!

Tassies first McDonalds. Good coffee from the recently added McCafe. Service can be slow during peak periods.

Rutherford McDonald's - it's one of the better one's I've been to. I believe the franchisee of this store also has recently acquired the Singleton store Smile

We found Ronald at Woodbridge, Rockingham, Western Australia

It is so much easier trying to take a pic of Ronald when you have a small chld with you. But still they look at you weird enough if the child is carrying a GPS especially when the shop where we found Ronald was so small.

PS.... We had to go to three Maccas to find Ronald

Maccas at East Maitland. Sorry about the picture - there must have been an earthquake going on underneath my daughter when she took the photo.

After a days caching we stopped here to warm up a bit (outside temps, 1.6deg when we arrived, 1.4deg when we left), I noticed Ronald shivering in the dark so, after warming up inside, passed the camera to Swampgecko, worked out how to open the childproof gate and obtained the picture.

The place? - Lithgow.

To be honest this store's coffee aint the greatest and that's what makes a McD's for me personally ... the one near home is better (although it aint got a Ronald) and has a Cafe which was the best thing Macca's ever did.

Since the title of the cache is The Big M ... we went out and found a really biggun'

Try as I may .. Therese just wouldn't climb up on the roof.

Took Nuffin' but memories and a photo

Left an amused cashier in the drive thru.

Here is a member of Team_Diesel with Ron at the Glen Waverley Golden Arches.

Opened in 1971, as Victoria's first McDonalds, on the southeast corner of Springvale and High Street Roads Glen Waverley. The company won the right to build against considerable local opposition and the planning regulations, taking their case through the courts at great expense.

Ronald just happened to be in the Chadstone (Melbourne, Victoria) store at the same time as I was, so I just had to get a photo. I didn't have the heart to tell him the food was the same as every other "Big M" restaurant I've been in.

After the frustration of finding other stores sans-statue, I was pleased to find a standing Ronald at Richmond McDonalds (Church St near Bridge Road)

Unfortunately he's in the doorway - it's a reasonably cramped store - so I did the self portrait on my way out after grabbing a cheeseburger or two.

Harder than I thought...

List of Melbourne Macca's that DON'T have this clown character at them...

  • South Melbourne
  • St Kilda

Seems a number of Ronald's have been replaced by McCafe's.

McDonalds Geraldton (WA)

I have been hanging out to get down to Geraldton to log this cache as our Karratha store doesnt have a Ronald. I didnt think I was going to manage a photo for this cache as the other half of the team REFUSED to participate in photo taking on Sunday when the store was very busy SO.....

As we were about to leave to come back to Karratha on early Monday morning I convinced Ian that we should go back into Geraldton to top up the fuel and have a quick coffee. Once there (at Maccas) I grabbed the camera and since the store had only just opened (we were actually waiting on the doorstep) AND there wasnt anybody about and Ian "happily" took the money shot.

Geraldton store is always a great place to visit - the staff are friendly and courteous, service excellent. The store is always clean, even when the holiday rush is on.

13-Feb-05

We stopped for refreshment break between the cache hunting, at Midland. Where there is no available good coffee cafe or for a quick good coffee, we opted McCafe if we are happening to be in this area. Ronald is happy to be in the photo with Mr Varuna and GPSr.
