Description
A locationless celebrating the practical improvisations of those working on the land.
When I was a kid a "bath" was a large tub in the bathroom for serious personal washing, and as I got older it was weird to discover that in some places "Public Baths" actually meant what I would call a swimming pool. Of course, to farmers an old bath is a useful object that can be put to good use in the corner of a paddock as a watering trough to slake the thirsts of cows, sheep, or horses. When I was a kid, and I saw these troughs "in the wild", I confess that a little part of my mind couldn't help imagining that someone, for some reason, might still be using these now very exposed baths for their original hygiene-focused purpose. This cache celebrates the practicality and ingenuity of those on the land in putting the humble bath tub to extra use, while acknowledging that some of them are now VERY public baths where you'd want PLENTY of bubble bath before using them for personal ablutions. To log this cache, simply find such a bath and take a photo, preferably including your GPS. Upload the coordinates and the photo, and include a description of just how exposed it is in its location. Only one log per cacher ... unless you find a spectacularly interesting second example that I deem worthy of a second smiley. To set the bath filling, the Very Public Bath in the photo at right is on the Daylesford-Trentham Road at S37° 23.285' E144° 15.508'. It isn't quite as exposed as I had hoped to have as my example (e.g., right by a major highway, or hard up against the roadside fence), but it is certainly quite visible to all passers-by. |
Logs
Spotted this very public bath as we were driving by.
Logging for the Cacheopoly Game.
TFTC!
Driving along a narrow country road near Underwood Tasmania I noticed this bath. Sorry, a bit too open to public view for me to use.
A dry argument here though
Our phone is dual purpose for our gps as well as Geocaching
Thanks for the Locationless Cache
so I took a photo included bathtub see attach:-
Recycle bathtub with mosaics
He backed up for me to get this photo.
When we arrived one of the cows became camera shy, but the other was happy to interrupt its drink to have a photo taken.
Thanks SamCarter for this locationless
I needed a V in November.
Coords are S35 01.258 E149 16.700 or thereabouts.
Was grabbing a GC when fitzy mentioned that the baths used as troughs was a locationless. It is right along the fenceline as you drive into Gundaroo. Certainly a beautiful cache guardian here.
Sorry I didn't take a photo with my GPS but I was trying to avoid hypothermia.
This one hasn't been used for quite a while.
Thanks for another reason to stop and take a pic.

Found this very, very public bath roadside on the Shipley Plateau in the Blue Mountains!
Found while geocaching in Warrimoo, NSW . . .
Sun Valley fire trail . . .
I think the horses use this one more than the owner, who no doubt takes his baths indoors!
This is another double set although not very appealing after recent rains. Surprised to see this not logged for 9 months, TFTC,

The cows around us had plenty of water and these are just 2 of 2 more I noticed in the nearby paddocks.
Nice shot with Mt Hotham in the background.

As we were taking the first photo, a very demanding sheep came along and complained very strongly that, being on the side of the road, it was more than a Very Public Baaaaaaaaaaaaa..th

On our way back from logging the Katoomba Trig, Mrs. pjmpjm and I decided to visit 'The Giant Stairway' near the Three Sisters. We parked just in 'free parking' area, near Silver Mist Park, and walked about 800 metres to our goal.
On the way back to the car, taking a shortcut on a little-used pathway, carpeted with pine needles, we found this old bathtub. It's set in the ground almost in the middle of the track near Silver Mist Park! Wonder what the original idea was in placing it here.
Was it a birdbath? Anyhow, this is a locationless cache I've never logged, and didn't realise that I'd find an example so close to home!
This one is full of grass from the recent rain and sun.
TFTC,
Roostaman.
Despite such a nice warm day, I had no inclination to nude up for an afternoon scrub-up.
Thanks SamCarter.
I see cachers have logged more than one find on this cache so I plan to log a few more that I know of if that's OK. Now that I know about this locationless cache I keep seeing baths everywhere! thanks for giving me so much fun.
Had just returned to geomobile after hiking a k or 2 after a few caches & noticed this as we where about to drive off
The upside though of this little sojourn in the wilderness was the discovery of a wild herd of very public baths! Four in total, though one had wandered away from the pack. No GPS in photos, as the kids were all "Are we there yet?" and the banjos were getting louder!
There is a few of these around this area.
TFTC again,
Roostaman
Looks like a nice little camp spot for somebody.

I have been meaning to make a find against this locationless cache for some time now, but most times I have spotted baths I have not had my camera/gps on me or have not had a good spot to park, but today all things were working in my favour, so I just had to stop & record the spot. TFTC.
So we would say if you are game to go jump in this one go right ahead
We found it on our way back home from the local beaches
Although it was full of water and ready to go, it did not look inviting!
