Description

To log a find on this cache you are required to

  • post a photo of a book that you have at home where the author’s name starts with the letter D
  • the photo must be of the front cover and show the author’s name, not the spine as the author’s name is sometimes abbreviated on the spine
  • the photo must include something on the book or next to the book which identifies you (eg pathtag, sign with your caching name etc)

For the purpose of this cache, the author’s name starts with the first letter. For example

  • Enid Blyton starts with a “E”
  • J. K. Rowling starts with “J”
  • “S” is the first letter for the joint authors Susannah McFarlane and Lachlan Creagh and Lachlan Creagh cannot be used for “L”
  • the author cannot be the editor; for example “The Penguin Best Australian Short Stories” edited by Mary Lord cannot be used for “M” as editors do not write the complete contents of the book they have edited
  • ignore titles (such as Sir, Dame, etc); “U" is the first letter for Dr U Know Alot

Lastly, you cannot use the same Book Title / Author combination used to log any letter in the Book Title series. You can, of course, use the same author but of a book with a different title. For example if you used the book “The Valley of Horses” by Jean M. Auel for your “T” Book Title, you can used the book “The Mammoth Hunters” by Jean M. Auel for an author starting with “J”.

With those ground rules in place, you can start rummaging again through your books. By the way there will by just the 26 caches in this series (not many author’s names start with a digit!!).

Our example for this cache is  David Guterson who wrote "East Of the Mountains".

My first entry in this series - D for Dan Harris, author of "Speedsolving the Cube". You may be interested to know that there's a community out there of people not only interested in solving the Rubik's Cube (and similar "twisty puzzles"), but in solving them FAST. Real speed requires lots of practice, and committing to memory large numbers of algorithms to use in specific situations. I don't really have the required patience for that, I was more interested in having a play with the various different puzzles and seeing if I can get them out. This book deals with the 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and 5x5x5 cubes, really after that you've got all the techniques you need for any size cube.

Now it looks like it's time to do some more rummaging through my books, including the photos I have taken for the "Title" cache series, as I have some Title-letter duplicates I can use for this series Laughing

My D Author's name is D. H. Lawrence.

David Herbert Lawrence was an English writer and poet. His collected works represent, among other things, an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation. Some of the issues Lawrence explores are sexuality, emotional health, vitality, spontaneity, and instinct.

D is for Duncan McNab

In 2013, Australia achieved a unique place in the history of outlaw motorcycle gangs, boasting the highest per capita membership in the world. So just what are these gangs, and who makes up their membership?

Drawing on insights from his experience as a former Sydney detective, Duncan McNab gives the inside history of outlaw biker gangs in Australia. From the bad old days of the 1960s when the first outlaw biker clubs entered into amphetamine manufacture, through to the 1984 Milperra Massacre that made world headlines, to the Sydney airport brawl between the Hell's Angels and Comancheros culminating in the brutal death of Anthony Zervas, Outlaw Bikers in Australia sheds light on how the "one per cent deviants" have gained a stranglehold on the recreational drug market and are becoming major players in the international outlaw scene.

This is the dramatic story of the rise and rise of Australia's outlaw motorcycle clubs by the bestselling author of Killing Mr Rent-a-Kill, The Usual Suspect – The Life of Abe Saffron and The Dodger.

About the Author

Duncan McNab is a former policeman and private investigator. He's worked as a journalist covering current affairs for both the ABC and the Nine Network.

D = Di Morrissey - Tears of the Moon

I have read all Di Morrissey books, some in paper form some ebooks. This one I like and two others as they are set in Broome so close to home at only 2,200km away.
I have a few of her books at home, actually I brought another one today very cheaply the only way I can afford to add to my collection.

In addition to armchair geocaching, I've been reading a bit more in my leisure time recently, and this book by Diane Capri is a recent (but as yet unread) addition to my Kindle collection. I suspect that Capri's Hunt For Jack Reacher Series, which this title is the first of, is probably a B-grade rip-off of Lee Childs' Jack Reacher series (which I've enjoyed) but I'm happy to give her offering a go since it seems to have been "endorsed" by Childs.

Dawn French.
What a character!
Everyone loves her for her Vicar of Dibley series, every episode packed with side splitting humour.
Her autobiography is no different.
If you haven’t read it, I’m happy to lend you my copy.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning 2y’stassies, for the memories.
