Some info on domed roofs from Wikipedia
A dome (from Latin: domus) is an architectural element that resembles the hollow upper half of a sphere. The precise definition has been a matter of controversy. There are also a wide variety of forms and specialized terms to describe them. A dome can rest upon a rotunda or drum, and can be supported by columns or piers that transition to the dome through squinches or pendentives. A lantern may cover an oculus and may itself have another dome.
Domes have a long architectural lineage that extends back into prehistory and they have been constructed from mud, stone, wood, brick, concrete, metal, glass, and plastic over the centuries. The symbolism associated with domes includes mortuary, celestial, and governmental traditions that have likewise developed over time.
Domes have been found from early Mesopotamia, which may explain the form's spread. They are found in Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, and Chinese architecture in the Ancient world, as well as among a number of contemporary indigenous building traditions. They were popular in Byzantine and medieval Islamic architecture, and there are numerous examples from Western Europe in the Middle Ages. The Renaissance style spread from Italy in the Early modern period. Advancements in mathematics, materials, and production techniques since that time resulted in new dome types. The domes of the modern world can be found over religious buildings, legislative chambers, sports stadiums, and a variety of functional structures.

Mount Mulligan is a former mining town west of Mareeba.
Known as the birthplace of the Rainbow Serpent and a sacred site according to indigenous legend, Mount Mulligan is spectacular but rarely seen.
It is the site of the Mount Mulligan mine disaster, Queensland’s worst mining disaster. It was a coal mining town from 1910 until 19 September 1921 when an underground explosion killed 75 miners (all the miners in the town). The mine closed, but reopened in 1923 and continued in production until 1957 when a hydro-electric scheme eliminated the need for the coal.
Mount Mulligan is 180 kilometres from Cairns and the last 44 kilometres are unsealed roads.

This domed roof is a part of what is now known as Scotch Oakburn College. This campus was originally The Methodist College. The Methodist Ladies' College, Launceston (M.L.C) was established on Elphin Road, just east of the city centre, in 1886. The aim of the college was to allow girls the same access to educational facilities as boys. The largest building on campus had been named "Oakburn" upon its construction 25 years earlier. After its first year, it had 88 students. The school then became know as Oakburn College up to its amalgamation with Scotch College in 1979.
This dome roof is on a private house in Launceston.

This is the inside of the domed roof of the little lodge, as part of the church at Morowa, WA.. it was designed by John Hawes, the architect who became a priest, the Monseignor.
Thanks for the Locationless Cache
A Canberra landmark since its construction in 1959 and the first building in Canberra to be included on the National Heritage List.
thanks corunnaroad
It is the Geelong Free Library and Heritage Centre.
Geelong Free Library was begun in 1858. The Geelong Historical Records Centre was established in 1979 as a depository for significant historical records and archives from the district. The centre is a Place of Deposit, as part of the Public Record Office Victoria network of community archives designated for the preservation of Victoria's history.
Thanks for the Locationless Corunnaroad
A lovely outdoor eating area.
thanks Corunnaroad
With so many high rises I guess designers want to make their buildings look different. This one decided on placing domed roofs scatter all around the top of the building. While its perhaps not a domed roof in the traditional sense, its certainly eye catching.
Thanks for the locationless.
This is the Australian Bosnian Islamic Centre, found in Deer Park
Went looking for a trig to count towards the Summer Scavenger Series. Not only found it and got a good long uphill walk but was rewarded with a claim for this locationless as well. So fitting for the Air Navigation Facility on Round Mountain to have a domed roof.

It adds an interesting aesthetic to an otherwise ordinary shopping centre.
Thanks corunnaroad.
The temple was built in 1785 and forms part of the estate of Frederick Augustus Hervey, Bishop of Derry and Earl of Bristol (or the Earl Bishop). The temple was built as a summer library and its architecture was inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Tivoli, near Rome. It is dedicated to the memory of Hervey's cousin Frideswide Mussenden.
This doom roof is over the Hall of Remembrance, where the tomb of the unknown is located. The roof is visible from many locations around Canberra...and is a well known landmark.
Thanks Corunnaroad....and neat locationless.
Domed extension to a house in Narrabundah, ACT. I have long puzzled about this dome and wondered what it is used for. Someone told me it houses a spa, but I'm not really sure its use. Whatever its use, this dome has been been here for years.
The Planetarium features two domes - a 12.5m diameter Cosmic Skydome and the observatory which contains a permanently mounted Zeiss 15cm refractor and a Meade 25.4cm "Go To" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
The planetarium is located in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens at Mt Coot-Tha and is named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, governor of New South Wales (1821 - 1825) and well known Scottish astronomer who established the first significant observatory at Parramatta, Australia, in 1822 for mapping the southern skies.
One of the town's most impressive buildings is the Perth Tabernacle (the local Baptist Church) which is located in Clarence Street. This ornate Romanesque Revival-style brick building, which was constructed in 1889, is characterised by a ribbed iron, domed roof and large panelled doors. It has been designed as an octagon - See more at: http://www.aussietowns.com.au/town/perth-tas
Although we cant see the large copper domed roof of the auditorium from the front of the building it is easy to see from the clock tower and different vantage points within City Hall. The auditorium hosts many events - concerts (many of which I've gone to), weddings, Royal visits, etc.
My domed roof is that of the Bahai Centre in Hobart, Tasmania.
Have attended weddings here and even had a coffee or two
TFTC and cheers

Built and opened in 1889, this Heritage Listed building has a very distinctive copper dome.
In 1988 the building became redundant when the port facilities move closer to the mouth of the river. These days the building is leased by University of Queensland and used as a function centre.
St Petersburg.
We just love the ornate domes on this church. The church is situated on the embankment of the Neva River and has quite a varied history (according to our guide) including being used as a skating rink prior to it being re-instated as a church.
This has brought back many fond memories of our recent trip. Thanks heaps.
