Gallery of log for Domed Roofs

25-Sep-15
We were in Italy this month and saw many examples of domed roofs. This beautiful roof is in Pisa near the Leaning Tower. Saint Mary of the Assumption is the name of the cathedral which is also known as Duomo. The construction of this cathedral began in 1064 by the architect Busketo who is also buried here. The dome is frescoed which was largely destroyed by fire in 1595, however it has been restored in future years. Galileo is believed to have formulated his pendulum theory here by watching the swinging of the insence lamp hanging from the top of the dome.
