This weekend, jesswrigley and I headed to Point Lowly and Whyalla to scuba dive with the cuttlefish, who annually migrate there over the winter months to breed. The cuttlefish were plentiful, with the largest groups that I had seen from several prior visits there. Whyalla was a good little city, but unfortunately due to COVID-19, a number of steelworks and mine tours had been cancelled in the current times.
Similar to the previous day, jesswrigley and I started our day this morning with a final cuttlefish dive at Stony Point. The sun was out, and we had great visibility to see those chameleons of the sea. We then had one final drive around Point Lowly, before driving along the coastal road towards the Point Lowly intersection turn-off, and then onwards into Whyalla. We had a late lunch along the Whyalla's beach/coast, before exploring a few of Whyalla's attractions: Mount Laura Homestead Museum, and Hummock Hill Lookout.
I noted that although this cache had been archived, there was probably still a good chance of this cache still available to be found. We were headed back to Whyalla anyway, so there really wasn't much of a detour to check it out in any case. We pulled over nearby, and then made the short walk to the posted coordinates to investigate. Unfortunately (or fortunately), no evidence of this cache remained, so it sounds like it has been well and truly cleaned up. Thanks anyway woodsy5 for the cache placement.

A Great weekend away doing the Googs Track with good friends. Lots of different scenery and a lot of fun
We had a great time seeing some good ranges of different styles of caches now it was time to grab a few caches around the Whyalla area.
Thanks for putting these caches out for us to find woodsy5

After completing our trek along the Googs Track and back through the Gawler Ranges, it was time to rack up some numbers in the Whyalla area - gee there are a lot of caches around here.
Today our focus was on the August Pipeline series then north east to Point Lowly area finishing a little earlier today at 7:30pm - log was all dry today and had a huntsman come up with the cache. TFTC.

Our first find of this sort. Found whilst out driving around with askjgraz . Log is a tad wet!
Brought Stavros08 out here for a different type of cache - all part of their training. Unfortunately, as a past finder, we could tell the cache is broken and needs mtce (half PVC tube is missing and log is water logged)
Fortunately I had the necessary when I arrvied at this cache and the logbook was soon to hand. It is in good shape in the obvious way, but is starting to get tattered. Nicely done though woodsy5.

Today we wanted to do the 31days of August, we continued on to do a few extra heading towards Point Lowly. We had read the requirements for the cache so new what to expect.
This is always a good fun hide that is worth a favourite point.
Thanks woodsy5

Out doing a few of the best caches in the area with the grandkids to kill a bit of time, of course this one fits right into that list...
After I fell over doing a previous cache, I thought this might be easy. No, a dirty great pipe to climb over. All was good and with help from G/son cache was signed. Clever caches here in Whyalla. Log was dry, but lid had a split. It might need to be checked.Tftc.8/06/13 16:20 Find #433

How clever is this one! unfortunately it was broken so we couldn't sign it as the log was saturated. Brilliant idea tho. Tftc
Upon arrival at GZ, we stared blankly at it realising we didn't have the prerequisites on board. But with a bit of resourcefulness, and without harming the cache, we managed to extract the log, eventually.
Thanks woodsy5.
Thanks woodsy5.
6602. [green]I was in charge of researching the caches and culling those that would require special equipment etc. This was the second of this exact type that I had left in. Thankfully the resourceful, and dextrous winglen retrieved the cache 3 times. No caches were harmed in the logging of this cache. [/green]
[blue]Thanks for the cache woodsy5 and the McGyver. [/blue]

Was out showing visiting cacher Kayza around Whyalla's best caches and this one sure qualifies. All is well with the cache.
After a very enjoyable couple of days in Whyalla picking up quite a few caches, meeting some of the local teams at the 4wd event and even clocking up our 10,000th cache find it was time to start heading home again but of course we had to grab a few on the way out. The only problem with it is that we parked on the wrong side of it which was only a small hurdle to overcome and then we were at gz. We have seen a container like this before so knew what we had to do and we soon had the cache in hand and have added our name to the log. There was a slight problem returning the container but that was also overcome by a little bit of shifting of dirt.
Thanks once more woodsy for the cache.

Bethel Youth group adventure find #3. Thanks Woodsy! Had a couple of bottles, was just enough! Paper was a little damp, but all good. Favourite of the day.

20 litres of water in the car. 2 litre container. It is all good. Can someone turn this water into wine please.
Very nice. We figured that if anyone turned up in the next 5 mins, they could have fished it out with a long finger. The drain rate is slow and steady. No erosion causing stream in this place is a top engineering design [^][^]
Thanks to woodsy5 and clear skies from TeamAstro.

Great concept. Seen these before in videos, but never done one. Loved it. Master 4 had a great time retrieving the cache. Found with missyhere. TFTC Woodsy.
I had seen one of these ina video I watched once, so when I read the description I knew what to look out for and what had to be done. So it was a quick recovery of the cache and sign the log. TFTC.
A Great Cache Woodsy, I went last night and found it straight away but yet u guessed it when i got there i relised i left the 1 vital thing at home. Back again after lunch after a big drink and all good to go!
Found this one with Affy during lunch time hunt. Fantastic hide method but the dead bird made it a struggle to hold down lunch. TFTC
A nice simple find to kick our day off.
We came prepared with the right supplies. A great hide, pulled off beautifully.
I have one much the same as this in New Zealand, so knew what to expect.

Another one (kinda) off the DNF list!
After DNFing "Something Fishy" on a family trip (when we only had one geo-junior) I contacted woodsy5 for suggestions on an equivalent cache to find. He suggested this one or another one at a busy intersection. Given that the number of geo-juniors has now grown to three that wasn't really an option so we opted for a little hydration!
Picking your stopping points on a 8 hour trip with three geo-juniors can be a challenge - every cache can potentially add another hour to the journey! After a pit stop in Port Augusta and hoping for tea in Whyalla it took some negotiation (read: pleading) to stop but we are certainly glad that we did!
After navigating our way through the local hydrographic topography we arrived at the cache with all the equipment we needed, except a pen.
After the eldest geo-junior worked out how to extract the cache I raced back to the car to sign the log and then returned everything to it's hidey-hole.
Thanks woodsy5 for a wonderful cache and an opportunity to reduce my DNF list!

#1975 Found on Day 2 of our Eyre Escape with DazzPete. Thought this was a great cache which was very doable on our travels through the area. Dad assisted the Queen with the cache extraction - a very novel hide. Our thanks to Woodsy5 for the nice concept. Cheers [^]
We had never heard of this type of hide but our traveling companions, skullracing, had and they wanted to check one out. Expect to see this pop up in one of their hides soon.

Heard about a must do cache. Came prepared. We hopped out of the car and were looking at a closr possible GZ when we heard a car tooting. Woodsy5 again!!! Enjoyed pointing us towards correct GZ. Hopefully the economy can do what the cache does.
After a short walk, and some (H2O) followed by some Rehydration Therapy, we was able to find the cache. [^] Like this cache, nice bit of work. Thanks for the adventure, woodsy5, cheers from diggers09
Seen this one prior to the trip and thought to myself, I can't pass up a challenge like this. I had a fair idea of what to expect as I had a similar plan for a placement at Port Elliot based on a certain liquid amber. Got to GZ and BINGO, glad I brought along my supplies I believe the journey to GZ requires a little less than a six pack
TFTC Well done woodsy

This is a great new idea, nice to see so much thought and effort go into a cache, well done.
Where it was is obvious, but the 'how to get it' was not. I didn't read the cache page properly so I walked around trying to find a stick or something until I'd worked up quite a thirst. Just then YR80 brought out the water bottle and all was well.
Now that is a bit different – loved it!
Unfortunately I had a bit of an oops with the replacement – the cache is still retrievable, but not quite as I found it. I’ve let the owner know what happened.
Thanks for the fun woodsy5.

First Silver for Me! I expected something like this.
A simple drive by if you have looked at google maps and know the tracks, you have an old work bomb that leaks oil and water, and the cache site is still shiny from being new. Otherwise, it could be very difficult.
Thanks for the effort woodsy5.

Wife and I jumped on this one.
Very clever!!
Dehydrated nearby then onto the cache!
TFTC and a virgin at that!
