This cache was one of those found around or on the leap day February 29th, 2024 before, during or after the Mega event in Adelaide. Many thanks to all those owners who placed caches that VK7HCH and I found during our trip from Hobart to the Mega and return home again. Last one of the combined finds for this trip. Not so easy to get to and balancing whilst signing the log makes it all that bit harder. This cache find now completes my fizzy grid! 3 major caching events for me this trip - attending my first Mega event, filling my find calendar from once to five times and now completing the fizzy grid. Oh and a surprise coming up.

12:15 - 35, Monday Nov 20, 2023Another crack at this one armed with the hint pics (Which i didn't see last time ha ha) and a powerful torch for those nooks and crannies but still no booty. Ah well.... it was a fun challenge none the less and i learnt a lesson here....... Foot placement & how to grip ground like this without sliding to my doom ha ha.Thanks for the challenge anyways Wink

A trip up north again for 3 days, targeting 25 Solved Puzzles and "Old Gentleman" Caches.Trads / Multis and others with high Fave points / High Difficulty Star ratings also."Gutted" is all i can say. I was SO hoping i would find this one given the Star rating on both D and T.At GZ i carefully made my way up and scrutinized every possible spot where it may be along the top from the far left to the far right... all of it and no booty was located. It is a 5D star so i may have easily overlooked it but ALL crevices were inspected short of me causing an avalanche of shale in order to find it ha ha CoolAll the time i was sure-footed with not one slip, i was happy about that. This one was definitely on my radar to be found today, but i'm no stranger to disappointment.Oh well.... i will keep an eye out on future logs to see if it was just me (coz it usually is Big Grin ha ha) The ascent was easy-as for me but the find?? well, that is where the 5 Stars come into it.I was happy to have a crack at this one anyway, MasterOfTheHunt. Thanks for the opportunity to earn those stars Wink(There's just no doubt..... i will be back to try again Big Grin)

How could I drive passed this….. I’m nearly always up for a challenge and this looked like a bit of fun, so long as I don’t fall and I find the cache I will be one very happy camper
After a bit of scrambling and looking for secure footing and a good hiding place for a cache, I was able to find both then I was able to sign the log with one hand!

A bit of a late start today with the plan being to find caches for puzzles I’ve solved before leaving Adelaide.
The weather is perfect, I really should have started earlier, for a country drive and finding a few caches.

A very nice D/T, so worth taking a decent sized detour to grab. Nice scramble up the hill, with the cache found reasonably fast. TFTC!

In Tasmania for 2 weeks to attend the Oceania Orienteering Champs. Caching all around for DT combos and counties. Cache soon found. Getting back down was harder than going up. TFTC.

Out exploring the area around here while visiting Tasmania on holidays.
This one took me a while before I finally reached the right elevation and spot.
The GPS was pointing all over the place so I ended up looking at quite a bit of the shale cliff.
I even ended up climbing to the top and going down another section.
Finally the GPS counted down to a few meters and I was able to see a likely spot.
After a lot of slipping and sliding through the shale it was nice to add our names to the log.
TFTC, it was a bit of fun!

Setting out today with the goal of finding cache number 300! This is number 299 so close. Now off to get geosis abb to get number 300 together.
I checked plenty of previous logs and photos supplied before attempting this cache so I knew what I was getting my self in for. One log mentioned they went too far so I made sure to check each little pocket in the rocks as I went and lucky I did as I was planning to go further along than I needed too. The climb wasn’t as bad as I was expecting although there was a lot of leaf litter but I also did make sure to come on a week with no rain.
Personally I would have loved to see something other than a mint tin but nonetheless thank you for the nice climb and good find!

Made a detour of the road home today to grab this cache. Scrabbled a little too high and had to tuck back in again to find the cache. Thanks for the cache

Visiting from Townsville and continuing our anti-clockwise loop. Launceston and Davenport today.

This was the main target for this leg of the trip as the rare DT filled 1 of the last 2 spots of loop 6. The final one is a Brissy challenge I’ve already signed and have now qualified for with this trip.

I took the long (less steep) way up but needn’t have bothered. The cache was quickly located and then I was straight down to the road. Happy days.

Thanks MasterOfTheHunt for creating and placing this for us to enjoy.

Making our way to the North coast for a short visit, collecting some cache and getting some work done.
This was one of our target caches
Arrived and made it towards the top of the crumbly cliff.
Found the cache and happy to add this to my finds

Thank you for the geocache

This one has been on the to-do list for quite a while with the attractive D/T rating. After the earlier showers the shale was very slippery, which added to the fun! Got to the top pretty easily considering but spent quite a while searching before finally coming up with the goods. The climb back down was harder than going up but managed it without slipping. Certainly didn't my clothes clean though! TFTC!

We missed the logical place to pull over but as it turned out that made it a lot easier to reach GZ, however finding GZ was the beginning of our bad luck! As Coultsarama went to grab the cache he stuck his elbow into a the nest if the largest ants I've ever seen. A big welt on his arm later and we decided that it was only fair to descend the way the cache intended, and not take our easier route. As I descended I thought it smart on a flatter section to ease the risk of slippage and to just run down. Bad idea. I feel on my knees and am now writing this log with various scrapes and cuts drenched in sevlon. Nevertheless a fun cache, and what's a 5/4.5 cache if you don't come away with bodily evidence of some sort! Tftc

Well, finally had a day to go and do some caching and had some good weather!!!!
The plan was to get the cache "Shale Cliff" and some puzzles that had been solved around Ulverstone, then on to Penguin, and hopefully a few around Devonport on the way home. Was up early and out the drop before 6. The drive to Devonport was fairly boring with the GeoKids, as we had done this road so many times before, but worth it considering the goal.
Our target was for 50 GC caches to get my yearly tally to 500 and total GC to 5500. Luckily I was successful in this

TFTC

Ok, this was the point of the whole trip. I needed this cache for the D/T grid, and had attempted before in a rain storm (Not ideal)

Anyway the container was rusted, so replaced. The log book was damp, so replaced as well. Original log book still in container plus a new one

Tricky and not very good for young kids as it's very steep

Today i was working nearby so i called in to grab this cache on the way past, i pushed my self up the bank all though gravity wanted me back down,
after all that effort to only find a mint tin cache at the top i was rather disappointed as there was no reward for effort i had just put in.

We are up from Hobart for some R&R before Lady membsec is out of action for a few months. We don’t have any real plans and have already changed our plans many times. Took advantage of a sunny but cold day start today.

We weren’t too sure if we would do this one but once at the car park area, Lady membsec thought she could do it so up she went, didn’t go high enough at first but then readjusted and soon saw the likely place! Retrieved the cache, signed and then had trouble getting it back but with a little more climb replaced as found!

What an achievement for 2 “old” people!!

Hello MasterOfTheHunt thank you for the cache

I took an easy way up to the top but found my boots were too slippery to climb down to where I thought the cache was so I left EeePees to find. After a bit of a climb and some clever balancing EeePees found it.

Today was the fifth day of a road trip with EeePees and a nice sunny day it was.

Thanks for the cache, MasterOfTheHunt.
We took an easier path towards the top, from 50metres or so up the road to the South. My colleague went right to the top, while I came in at about the right level. It was too wet to be dusty, which made it equally slippery though. After stopping to take a phone call, I eventually found the cache, but was certainly hanging on while logging it.
Cheers, EPs.

Found with AlbyDangles on Day Five of the 'Bust' leg of our "Kempsey Or Bust" tour; as Covid-19 cancelled the Kempsey Mega event this weekend.
Our last full day in the area, targeting Forth to Paloona today with a few side-stops and detours.

The bridge is now complete and the road is open.

The first attempt was to tackle it head on. Unfortunately this didn’t lead to the cache, so retreated back down for a more considered approach.

A great day out with JL Rockstar today to collect some caches around the Devonport/meander region. The main goal was to attend the event in Devonport for a very important 75th birthday.
Overall we found a total of 45 finds with 2 DNFs along the way.

The talk at the event today was that this may be at the bottom of the cliff. A drove to collect a much needed DT combo.

A search around the base and no cache was there. I scramble up the shale and a walk along the cliff having a look. I finally spotted the cache in some rocks. D5? A big question on that but I’ll take it.

Came across from Melbourne last night, and decided to make my first Tasmanian cache an adventure. Parked the camper about 100m short of the cache and walked up the road in a very nice section of forest.

Scrambled up the cliff, hunted around for a while - then w00t!

Reperio at 1340.

Having arrived in Ulverstone today to spend our last couple of days in Tasmania, I was in search of some higher terrain caches, and this one looked enticing. Once we made our park below, the going looked easier than expected, but that loose rock and shale made every step uncertain, and a little wary. I poked around in a few spots before having to make my way further along the slippery slope, before eventually finding the right spot. Tricky little thing.

Gratias MasterOfTheHunt.

Tassie Trip day 19 - Today's goal was a walk for 8 caches near Lake Barrington that being "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" series and a letterbox cache along the way. On way we selected the first cache of the hungry catapillar series and begun to travel from our current base of Ulverston and along the way we made a missed turn and because there was a cache along the way that was were the day started.

Arriving at the location we had a quick looke at the sight and we decided to see what we could find if anything after climbing half way up and the GPS accuracy at 15M and pointing to the left I went that way and after making my way around to the left most end of the area at about 3/4 the way up and not finding anything I had a little slip down the slop. Well that was OK dust self off and climb back up and look at where i was heading and after deciding that the accuracy was causing a problem the top of the clif was obtained and the accuracy of the gps went down to 5m and I was 17M away, Damm now walk along the top the the other end and bingo it is close so once more over the edge and the reward was soon had. Also managed to loose a pair of glasses whilst looking over the other end and didn't find them but the cache was the reward.

Thanks MasterOfTheHunt for showing us this hidden spot to stop and cache.

Years ago I looked for this one and never logged a DNF due to me thinking i'd be back in a week or so for work but priorities changes and the project had me off somewhere else and i never got round to coming back or logging my DNF.
My first attempt at this cache was in the rain and let me tell you searching for this cache in the rain was not fun, even with me spending 30 minutes all I found was red mud and yet more red mud oh and there was the animal bones found at the bottom of the cliff while put me off just a little bit!
So back today and it was a damp but not that bad trip up the cliff and what do you know after a few moments looking in the wrong place I tried another and what do you know I have the cache in hand.

This is no long a missing D/T filler for me (I filled that by travelling to the UK) but I enjoyed the cache no end, finding a cache you have missed before is a great feeling.

After replacing the cache and making our way down to the car we were treated to the view of a Tassie Devil standing in the middle of the road a few hundred meters away, I was saying it wasn't a Devil to Goose even as I walked towards it thinking I cant be that lucky, but upon looking at the pictures with the Mrs it does look like a Devil and if we are correct it will be only my second I have spotted while out caching (the first ran past me while I was deep in the bush and scared the bejesus out of me)

Thanks for a great start to my caching day the whole experience makes it worth a fav point never-mind anything else.

This was an exciting opportunity for me. A new D/T chance. After driving up the Lake Highway from Hobart yesterday and overnighting in Ulverstone we came out here for the first cache of the day. It was wet and greasy on the road so we figured we would be dealing with some nice mud and clay - oh yah!
We drive past the shale cliff looking for a nice place to park but ended up turning around and parking at the bottom of the cliff facing the wrong way.
Stainless steel rat took the suggested path but I chose a different way, almost straight up. We both got up without any damage but he made the find as he did have a head start while I was messing about at the bottom.
Thanks MasterOfTheHunt, this find set the scene for a great day. Most of our finds for the weekend were GCAs but it was nice to add some good GCs and of course a new D/T.

We saw an animal further up the road. We think it was a Tasmanian Devil. We both showed our wives and they think it is too. SSR has a closer picture than mine.

The Wench and I are visiting the top end of Tassie for a few days...

I had this cache on my hit list for this holiday. It nicely fills a gap on my DT grid and is a difficult combination to get back home in Vic. We arrived at GZ late in the day and I changed from runners to my hiking boots then scaled the cliff with ease. It looks quite daunting but is much easier if you have long legs and arms to reach from secure hold to secure hold.

Thank you, MasterOfTheHunt, for this cache and the chance to fill a bit more of my DT grid.

After camping at Gunns Plains for the weekend we decided to tackle our 1st 5 starcache. Being short myself I couldn't even get my foot up high enough at the bottom to get off the ground so it was down to Mr C to retrieve this one. After a quick scramble and a lot of mumbling he was at gz and a quick find was had. Unfortunately contents were too wet and soggy to sign and we had no paper to put in so we are photo logging. Thanks for the challenge on this one makes a nice break from all the 1.5 star and driveby caches. Its a fav point from us.

*8/09/2016, 7:45 AM, Find # 5625.*

While on my trip around Tasmania looking for caches, this one was found.
I made this one a main target on this trip as now that I have found it, I have now completed the second loop on my D / T grid.
It was a bit of a slippery climb up and then I had to decide where to start looking, lucky for me it didn't take very long, now I off to enjoy the rest of the island.

**Thanks to MasterOfTheHunt for placing this cache.**

attracted by the rating, i drove to this cache. well, one could argue that it is t 4.5, i'd say it's rather a 4. but where is the d 5 coming from? not at all! it's rather 1.5 or 2. ok, at least it's another one for the matrix, didn't have that combo yet. TFTC!

We busted our berries getting to both caches. Yes, indeed we found the eclipse tin with the sodden log (and placed a dry sheet in it) and thanks to Teams Mars4's photo we also located the camo bison. Thankfully we took a rope for the initial climb and after some very slippery manoeuvring (a couple of landslides etc. etc.) we found GZs. Thanks to MasterOfTheHunt for providing a worthy D5 and to all the geocachers at the meet who pointed us towards this cache - and now we can claim a full set of souvenirs for the Roadtrip 2015.

22-Aug-15
D is for determination! We came, we saw, we conquered! Team M felt right at home scaling the Shale Cliff today, in fact he was in his element! But where's the cache? Hang on Team S better get up there and get on the job or at least give a bit of direction....it didn't take long and the original cache was located.

Wow what an adrenalin rush this was and I must say I've discovered a few new muscles finding this one Smile The difficulty level was definitely obvious today as the recent rain made things just a bit more risky. Whilst we were changing our clay covered shoes we were muggled and questioned as to our reason for being there as apparently there are fossils in this area....

TFTC MasterOfTheHunt it gave us our Let's Get Extreme souvenir and allowed us to finish our Geocaching Road Trip 2015 on a "high"!

I was on a mission today to find this cache as it is the only one in Tas that qualifies for the roadtrip souvenir .... took a friend for back-up and off we went with the geodogs. Found the base, saw the dogs climb up and followed with a bit of help from one of the dog leads. Made it to the top where GPS said GZ was but from the photos knew this wasn't the place. Back down I went and crawled around hanging on to whatever I could that didn't crumble away ... just a little bit further .... YES! Found the eclipse container and did my best to sign the very wet log. On my way back around I was sprung by chocolate_ali with 2y'stassies there for the same reason as me Wink Took the longer way down and as we got back to the car saw that cucinav had also joined the hunt and the original cache had been found. Given that there was now a very helpful rope in place back up I went to sign the other log as well. All in all a very enjoyable experience on a lovely sunny day and came away only slightly muddy and with a big smile Big Grin

PS Have taken Hope's Yellow Jeep Racer - he has had a long rest on the shale cliff and is ready to continue his journey

Great cache; fun (treacherous!) climb. Our descent was assissted (gratefully! ) by 2ystassies who were wise enough (!) to bring a rope. Our 6yo got most of the way up & safely down again, which we think was a pretty good achievement.

It was an amazing caching experience to meet a whole lot of other people here in the middle of nowhere Smile ...chocolate ali & scratches too!

Have put off tackling this one for too long. Today was the day as we were in the area grabbing 2 other caches. Mr Beetle climbed to the top and then had to come part of the way back down and around to the likely spot. He dropped further to sign the log as he didn't feel all that safe signing it at GZ. The signing ended up taking forever as the log book had been jammed in the bottom of the container and was proving impossible to remove. After a lot of swearing and poking around in the container with a stick it was eventually dislodged but by then our pen had been dropped and had smashed on the rocks. The marker in the container did the trick and the cache was eventually returned to its hidey hole. Thanks, I think!!

#2907 - 16:45; I was out on the north west coast on a Great Aussie Icon Hunt (#5.6) and decided to collect a few of the local caches while I was here. The geohoney and I had picked up some of the information we needed before heading in to Penguin for lunch. After lunch, it was time for some caching in Penguin before heading back on the return journey. I had identified this one as a potential find to fill another spot on the D/T matrix. Did a detour off the highway and drove straight past GZ. Turned the geomobile around and parked in the clear at the bottom of the hill before heading back up to make the grab. Completed the climb to the top, before dropping back down and making my way around to GZ. Felt a sting and found a large ant taking a bite of my hand. Got rid of him and continued around the cliff face to a spot which matched the photos. Moved a few rocks and uncovered the cache container. Managed to keep a grip while signing the log. Dropped a pathtag and a GC for the next intrepid finder. TFTC MasterOfTheHunt Cool

08-May-14
We had spotted this one a while back as its one of the rarer D T combinations so was prepared to do more of a detour. The weather had been fine so we thought it was worth a try. We could see previous geo tracks and went up with ease although you need to watch your footing and hold just in case. We homed in on the likely GZ and after we had dug enough came up with the find. The log really needs a plastic bag but we did not have a spare on us. We completed the signing duties n re hid and was down to the car it less than a minute. TFTC

Find during my roadtrip in Tasmania, many hiking through national parks, and also caches roadsides. Thank you to all cachers in the area Smile

Greetings from France Cool

For this cover I looked everywhere above, but returned many micro camouflaged stone is not at all I'm sure. So I put a new replacement box exactly the endorit assumed the original cache. Here are three pictures that will help in their future research.

If there is a misunderstanding, Masterofthehunt, you can delete my log.
thank you for this cover

Not the most suitable cache site for a couple in their 70's.
Sent the grandsons up, but it was well out of their reach.

Gotcha !!! What a difference dry conditions made. This time I had a plan , made after the last visit. And "I love it when a plan comes together ". Not bad for a 70 year old. Needed this to fill a hole in my D/T grid. A favourite from me today. Thanks MasterOfTheHunt. Visited TBs and GCs.

Well what can I say. It was raining....It was slippery....It was late afternoon...But old Temingi had a go!!
Looking at the pictures on the cache page now, I'm sure I was up in the correct area/level. Wish I knew if the close-up photos were taken looking down or looking horizontally or what angle in between. It's certainly a challenge, but what you'd expect for a 5/4.5 cache. Maybe I'll get time for another look in December before we return to the big island. Thanks for the challenge Master of the Hunt.

Found this cache as part of my and Geo Son E's caching and soccer trip to Burnie. Geo Kid E was playing in a regional cup in Burnie, so we left early and had a great time caching across to Marrawah and back through Burnie and Ulverstone areas.

Thank you for the cache

Climbed the hill, but could not find the cache. A shale cliff in the rain was not fun, and this cache should have a warning about its danger

Got it Smile tftc

Found on our find the caches published since our last visit to the coast and this was one of them.

Had to resort to examining the photo hints after our initial search failed to find the cache. Mr T was the one elected to perform the mountain goat impersonation as I watched from below. As he skated about on the shale I was glad when the find was made and he returned safely to the car.

This cache is certainly not for the faint hearted but it will be one we will remember. Thanks for the hunt MasterOfTheHunt.

Coordinates changed from:
S 41° 13.291 E 146° 08.443

Coordinates changed to:
S 41° 13.280 E 146° 08.439

Distance from original: 69.6 feet or 21.2 meters.

Updated coordinates. My thanks goes out to to 2y'stassies for providing more accurate coordinates, my phone must have been playing up in that area.

Cheers Smile

With the added photos found with no problems....other than getting back down as quite slippery after rain, so used the middle track to exit. I didn't come close to the cache location on the first visit as co-ords were out some 23m...average being.... S41 13.283 E146 08.431
A tricky find for sure..and you do need a head for heights. Still enjoyed the hunt...TFTC..and a FTF as well...many thanks....Cheers.

In hindsight we are relieved that we were preoccupied since this cache was published with preparations for, walking to and recovery from a trip to Quamby Bluff resulting in us having the benefit of all the initial work completed by Taure-rana and Sirius which resulted in photos and the hint - many thanks to Taure-rana and Sirius - we are very appreciative.

When we arrived today we took one look, tried to match the terrain to the photos and headed back to the car for a rope and gloves. Neither of us felt sufficiently confident of tackling the slope without some additional help. Initially we went up above the cliff to secure the rope. On the way back we saw the rabbit carcass - it was off in at least two ways (as well as "off" condition, it was close to where our GPS indicated GZ should be, well "off" from the hide).

Having secured the rope and returned to below the cliff it was a relatively straightforward task for one of us to work their way across to the hide. The security provided by the rope was very reassuring and resulted in small slips rather than big slides. After signing the log we noted that our GPS indicated that we were 24m from the location of the published coordinates.

We took some coordinates at the hide and from the top of the cliff directly above the cache. We noticed considerable variation between readings (probably due to reflections off the surrounding terrain and the tree cover) but our contribution to an update (averaged over 8 readings) is S41 13. 280 E146 08.439.

In a previous log Sirius commented that initially it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Gradually help was provided and that was appreciated. However it should remind us all that if we hide something that small in a similar environment, we have got to take great care to ensure that the coordinates are accurate. Multiple measurements taken over time giving an average value and then using those coordinates to locate the cache (preferably by someone other than the hider) is a well proven strategy.

Congratulations Sirius on your FTF - very well deserved. Congratulations etrexer (cat miner) on your second to find.

Thanks MasterOfTheHunt for the challenge - we attempted and achieved something we never thought we would ever tackle. TFTC.

(etrexer)located today after rainy weather, which made this a challenging task to get up the slippery bank. Had to put the walking boots into 4wd and low range to tackle this one.Am a bit concerned about how fragile this area is with all the loose shale sliding down to the bottom of the bank. After a decent storm i reckon the cache could be buried from landslip. But still enjoyed the challenge. Thanks MasterOfTheHunt

Judging by the photos....co-ords must be 15-20m out. I did comb this area as well...but GPSr had me consistently up near rabbit carcase.

Like looking for a needle in a haystack. The co-ords had me in the SE corner at the back..just behind a rabbit carcase. So much loose rock has been disturbed by a few cachers.
It's quite obvious that more cachers than Taure-rana and myself have looked for the cache, so it's rather irritating that no other DNF's have been logged. Maybe if they had then the cache may have had hint etc updated...as looking for a micro with scant clues in such a location is just a waste of time.

That's funny Sirius, like looking for a needle in a haystack was exactly what I sent to MasterOfTheHunt in a message this afternoon after looking again this morning, armed with the new hint and photos. I thought I looked where the new photo shows, but obviously not close enough, and my GPS also consistently put me over near the dead rabbit as well!
It's a good place for a cache though, will test some people's scrambling ability, and very few muggles around.
Unfortunately I don't think I'll have time to get back there anytime soon, so no FTF for me Sad

Have updated hint and added a spoiler photo for extra help if need be. Smile

Set off full of hope to get an FTF this morning but alas, I searched and searched but couldn't find it. The GPS was all over the place, and with no hint, I literally had no clue Sad
