Staying in Mt Gambier, we decided to take a trip to Penola. The cache was spotted quickly, and Muggle Husband was employed to fetch it for me. I love this type of bold hide.

16-Nov-24
A post breakfast cache before the wineries opened. It was a tricky find but in a great spot. Really impressed with the contraption to help with the logging!

We are on a caravanning trip around Australia seeing the sights and finding a few caches along the way. We called into town and got the bikes out to do a bit of an explore. We stopped here. I thought it was something else but it was not then after standing back for a bit my partner spotted and made the retrieval. Thanks for the cache

Yeeha! The Wild West is calling and Snips and Co and I are traversing along the Southern and Western Victorian borders.Today we will travel from Portland to Penola, hopefully finding a few geocaches in new LGAs and some scenic spots. It was nice to have a geocache in the centre of town. the name was funny too and reminded me about giving directions to my parents place. i grew up in a small-ish coastal shire and to get there you 'turned off the freeway and then turned at the lights'.. people always queried which set of traffic lights or the names of the streets.. our town only had one set of lights, so it was a good identifier.

09-Oct-24
Ha, this was fun. We have arrived in the beautiful town of Penola. Its still light and we are happy that we may find a cache or two before deciding on our dinner venue. So much fun, we (the royal we, as Im pretty sure it was Kristy who spotted the cache) looked, contemplated the options thought the same thing: There is a way, who is up for it? Kristy was so up for the challenge - my shoulder as support up she went and down she came, cache in hand. Nice, very nice. And all in between traffic light changes. Thank you iml72 for placing this fun little hide

I was doing the AdLab nearby and saw this traditional cache. The previous log said there was no room on the log to sign, however I found there was plenty of room when I turned the roll over. I liked the placement of this cache and managed to avoid being spotted by any muggles

22-Sep-24
Clever placement! A little stretch for me but made it. I have now officially filled up the log! Pic from nearby AdLab- good to see that the statues are being cared for!

Log full - I dont have anything appropriate on me to replace!

Find # 15924Been a while since I've been out solo for a long trip. But things change over time. And I'm living the past.So with some time off work, I've jumped the border wall to chase down some long trails in South Aussie... don't know how many I'll get. But I've got quite a few downloaded. I do have a short hit list ( of 2) caches to help with a challenge. All others are just for the Adventure and countryside views. Armed with all the necessary TOTT from tweezers and magnet grab to 6m ladder and 8m fishing pole. I believe I'm prepared for all that I'll come across. (Just had to leave the Kayak at home )Day 7. Naracoorte to HomeA day to take in the sites of the Naracoorte area before jumping back over the border. To head for home. Grabbing the odd cache along the way. Grabbed a pie at the bakery, then checked the phone for other caches to find..... omg.... I looked up n there it was.In the clear I made a grab.... short walk to log then back to replace.... a very interesting hide indeed. SmileTFTC iml72

SL at 12:50pm. Daytrip out with bdiaw and MuggleMasterKid9. We were on our way to Mt. Gambier from Edenhope as we attended the Swap Meet up there in the morning. We picked up a few goodies. Decided to do some caches on the way. I made an attempt at this one last time I was in Penola but there were too many muggles around. Today, I sent in bdiaw to get the cache as I knew exactly where it was. With limited muggles around, he made it look easy.*Signed log as FWD and MMK9.*TFTC iml72 and the challenge!

Suscoe was heading to Nelson today, it was a cool start at Murray Bridge and travelling through Keith the temperature dropped to around 3 degrees. But the sun came through and it ended up a lovely later Winter’s day. Our caching destination was Penola with Adventure Labs, Multis and Traditionals on our list.
Penola is a delightful little town with interesting history around every corner.

Day 12 of our loop through Vic and SA then home.

Today we were on the move from Millicent to Bordertown. fitzy_1965, albida33 & I headed out early to finish up the last of the caches in Millicent before heading for Naracoorte and then Bordertown. We signed as MAF or FAM to save room.

Our aim was to collect counties, oldies, AL’s and any interesting caches in-between. Once set up in Bordertown we headed out to the Little Desert. It was great driving around out there in no-man’s land. Certainly, a highlight.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned.

17-Apr-23
Southern Autumn adventure Day 13. Post Mega South East SA trip Day 7. Today Fitzy_1965, MinnieK and I were leaving Millicent for Bordertown. Logs were signed F.A.M or similar as we first went for three tree caches we missed stopping at yesterday, before finally packing up at camp and driving via a string of towns and caches to Bordertown. Once set up there we headed back to Victoria to tackle the Little Desert puzzle caches that have been calling to us for a few years now. As the evening closed in we took a roundabout route back to town for some lab caches and a spot of sinner cooking.

Having toped in town for a snack, I had to visit this cache just outside the bakery. I did need to wait for a few pedestrians to finish with the not so lonely lights before making the grab.

Thanks for the cache iml72

31,019. Found with minniek and albida33 (signing either as FAM or MAF to save room and just for fun) during another great day of caching in South Australia (and controversially Victoria as well).

Rutherglen Mega and South Australia Trip Day 12. Today we headed out to grab our last few wanted great D/T caches around Millicent, before trekking up to Bordertown, setting up camp again, and heading into The Little Desert for yet more fun caches. This was the next find of the day, and a quick find once at GZ. Signed, replaced, and then we headed off to the next cache on our list.

Thanks iml72 !!

Today was another big day with the aim of finding 11 cache types in a day, but we weren't sure how we would go as the weather in Millicent was bad, cold, wet and windy! After meeting Doctor Owl in Millicent we set off on our day and thankfully didn't get too wet and by the time we reached Penola we had sunshine and blue skies. [^]
After a long day we achieved our goal and ended the day at the Carpenter Rocks Tavern for a lovely hot meal before going back to the accommodation to get warm and dry. Cool

Had a lovely drive/walk around Penola gathering info for the Adventure Labs and finding a few caches along the way. Smile Really enjoyed all the old buildings along Petticoat Lane. Big Grin

Doctor Owl was just tall enough to retrieve this one. Surprised

Thanks for the cache iml72. Smile

03-Oct-21
Another soggy day and the mutual aim of JJ52 and Owl to achieve 11 cache types in one day was looking doubtful. Fortunately the skies cleared over the critical areas and the aim was fulfilled. Then there was unexpectedly plenty of time to clean out Penola of boxes, so they did!

03-Oct-21
Found this cache while we grabbed some lunch nearby. Good old budgietas, never missed an opportunity!
Thanks iml72

The Millicent Mega trip had been a long time in the making, for the Tassie trio of stainless steel rat, budgietas and gooseandegg, due to a couple of false starts thanks to COVID19. More and more caches were added to the extensive list as planning was being finalized. We focused on old caches, large caches, certain D/Ts, virtual caches, the On your Bike series and a few other special ones on our journey. Our route saw us caching in Adelaide for a few days before heading north via Gawler to the Barossa in preparation for the On your Bike series, whilst basing ourselves at a gorgeous cottage in Waikerie. We continued on to Renmark for a night before the long trek south to Millicent.
Some of the many highlights along the way were Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin’s Cache, Barossa High and Riverland (the oldest surviving geocache in South Australia).
At the Mega we caught up with a few of our caching friends, made some new ones, and of course missed many who could not make it this time. The weather was not the best in Millicent, and a COVID19 situation in Mt Gambier altered our plans but we had plenty of caches to keep us busy between showers, including tree climbs, plenty of adventure labs, and the entertaining Finding a Fish series - giving the new pole a good workout for the first time.
Thanks to all the CO’s who have placed and maintained all these caches that made our adventure so memorable.

Grabbed this while we got lunch.

Today we were around Millicent aiming for a couple of series like SFE and the fishing pole series along with local nice caches.

Even with the numbers being down it was great to attend a Mega and at least get to meet some fellow cachers after so long and catch up with a few people, we flew over from Tassie on Thursday and after spending a few days in Adelaide we headed Northeast to clean up some series and then head South to Millicent for the start of the Mega long weekend.

This trip has changed so many times since it was first booked and I'm glad we got to do it at long last, to start with it was just myself and GooseandEgg nipping over for the Mega and then it was a few more days with the addition of 1 toolman, then with lockdown it was back to two of us but then another Tassie cacher in the shape of BudgieTas stepped up to the plate and we were back on for an over a week trip to grab a few caches before the Mega and then finish off with Millicent before flying home on the Tuesday.

Thanks for the cache.

Grabbed this cache while grabbing a bite to eat. A very cool little cache, that we spotted as crossing the road. Replaced in better spot

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early in 2021 I received an invite from GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to join them on a caching trip to the Mega in South Australia. As planning got underway some caches with high Favorite points, very old caches, and the On Your Bike Series were listed as "must-dos"

The trip ended up being 10 days of solid and very enjoyable caching with quite a few highlights. The find count for the trip was around the 950 mark when all GCA, Adventure Lab, and GC caches are included. The high point for finds was a day of 335 finds in the one day, which would have been more, but a sudden storm put the end to caching for the day. No one was interested in getting out of the car to find a cache in a downpour in the dark Smile

We were lucky enough to find Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin's Cache, and my favorite for the trip Barossa High (From 21st of January 2001 with the original log book still in place) all in the one day.

Unfortunately, the caching around the mega was beset by bad weather and the day we had put aside for Mount Gambier was scrapped due to a covid case in Mount Gambier on the previous day, so we avoided the area. We all enjoyed the Fishing series and just managed to get the remaining of these before the light failed for the day.

In the end I managed to completed my D/T grid for the first (and possibly the second time) which was my aim for the year, although some of the D/T combinations were not really achievable in Tasmania without a 3 day overnight bush walk.
