We had a lovely walk with our holiday hound to this cache on a very chilly but beautiful winters afternoon. I made the find much harder than it needed to be so decided to look for it on our return. It was a much quicker find on the way back. Dropped a TB. TFTC

There are only two days left in the current solstice souvenir challenge and we havent even started it yet, so this evening we came to Shags Bay to try and find seven of the twelve caches that we need to complete the challenge. There was a boat in the bay as we walked down to the boiler, but it moved closer to the river as we arrived allowing us to search without any muggles watching. The cache was a quick find. There were lots of circular holes in the rock here as well, which was interesting. Thanks for the cache Diadem and TaurusSix!

Last find for the night. I took a picture of the bridge and Spectra on my way to this cache and again, I wondered how far I would get before I had to turn on my torch.
I made it to the waters edge and I realised that I'd have to go off track to bypass the high water level.
Found the cache quick but got stabbed by a thorn in the process. I had to use torchlight to find it though.
Once I had walked back past the high water, the torch got turned off and I was able to walk all the way back to the cachemobile without using it. I even got one step away from a possum sitting on the track before it took off into the bush.
Thanks for the walk and the cache!

Found it!

25-Mar-23
I took myself for a stroll this morning, and decided to pick up some caches on my gentle journey. Having visited the other boiler first, I returned to this one and soon had the cache in hand (it was quite exposed; which I hope I have rectified successfully). Thanks for the cache, Diadem and TaurusSix.

Decided to walk to Shag Bay today, so collected a few caches along the way. We made our way to the mouth of the bay along the track, then skirted around the water edge to the cache. The bay was surprisingly deep, so interesting to read about the history of the fertiliser production and the boiler. The deep bay meant that ships could get into to collect the fertiliser easily. We wondered what they made the fertiliser out of? The boiler was impressive, with incredibly thick sides. Thanks for bringing us all the way to the head of the bay Diadem and TaurusSix. A great walk.

17-Dec-22
Found today on our first walk on the area after moving near by.

24-Nov-22
Shag Bay (previously Bonemill Bay) is a very interesting spot with lots of views in all directions. The pathway down to the old factory site is rather steep and rocky but the shoreline down the bottom is well worth it. Cache was easy to find. *We left a rockin' lion for the next finders to take (no swaps required).

Found it! Well hidden!

06-Nov-21
It was a nice day for a walk around this area. Thanks for placing this cache.

21-Oct-21
This was as far as we got on our walk from Geilston Bay before turning back around. We were tempted to keep going as there's a mystery cache not too far away but we decided to save that for another visit. The same applies for all the GCA caches in the area. This cache was a quick find and it's an interesting old boiler too. TFTC!
Cheers,

This cache had everything - a great walk, beautiful view, a bit of history, some interesting geology and a good hide.
Accurate coordinates enabled us to make a quick find of a well hidden cache container. All was in very good condition. Fortunately the group partying on the yacht moored in Shag Bay were out of sight so hopefully our activities went undetected.. After signing the log and replacing the container we spent some time exploring the remains of the early buildings.

Many thanks for the cache Diadem and TaurusSix and thanks for showing us this magic spot. Definitely a favourite for this one!

16-Jun-21
Had to dodge some tumbling cammo as I pulled it from its hidey hole! At first I thought the area was a but eerie bit walking round further to the lil bridge with views straight out of the bat I agreed yes nice and peaceful! Tempted to walk around to the old ruins but decided against and headed back around the way I came.

A late night walk to fill in a calendar date.
Have seen the boiler many times as i do rather enjoy this track.

With the high hopes of walking to the final of an Ancient Multi in these parts, i had a change of heart governed by the sight of what lie ahead of me [:o] "ah yeah, nah. I'll just drive around and walk the coastal track" [^]

I had just slogged up the hill from the small car park over the hill behind me where Sarean Ct starts. [Straight up the side of the hill, no zig-zag pussy stuff... Raw and Hard-Core ha ha] I did have about 500 breaks but lol. Fitness has abandoned me it feels at times [v] Big Grin

I decided to grab the 2 Trads starting with this one.
An old Boiler greeted me as i approached from above it.
Took a pic and found the cache. SL at 11:32 on Saturday 22 May 2021.

The cache and contents are in great shape Cool

While caching in the area we picked your cache along the way. Great views of the bridge and surrounds, a great sunny day out. Interesting history, boiler still in good condition.

Cache and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

After finding a cache near by I decided to adventure onto this one. Yay another to do with rocks once again I was expecting quite a search. But this was the easiest cache I have ever found. It had literally been washed out of its hidey hole onto the ground. I signed the log and placed it back where I though matched the hint and coords and looked as though it belonged
Thanks for the new caches in the area.

This cache was my favourite for the day...an excellent hide as well.
Great piece of history.
The log wasn't in its ziploc which annoys the hell out of me...no respect...don't care attitude. Needless to say its safely tucked away now.

Many tftc...thoroughly appreciated..gets a fav ...cheers ST.

We were here a few weeks ago but we are back today to clean up the area, we even left GCA FTF chances last time as we didnt want to be gready and left some for others, but today we were not leaving until we had got um all Smile

I am back to weekly caching now and apart from long walks almost back to normal, one thing that hasn't changed it my late logs, sorry about that.

As we stopped for our last GCA cache two young ladies in exercise gear walked past us but we met up with them on the waters edge as the sat and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. We got chatting about the cave and they explained how the sigh and path had been removed as it was considered dangerous. Apparently the way to get to the cave is around the waters edge from Shag Bay at low tide, and the cave itself has supports in it as it is collapsing. Low tide was nearly 5 hours away so that wasn't an option today.
At GZ SSR made the find whilst I answered 3 calls (that kept dropping out) from whitewebbs on the top of Mt Donaldson.
We explored a bit more, noting some subtle changes since out last visit.
Now back to the car and to find some lunch.

hi Diadem and TaurusSix, thanks for the cache. I've never walked this track nor been to Shag Bay, so thanks for providing some impetus. It was nice and quite and peaceful here this afternoon, and I'd had the whole reserve to myself.
A fairly quick find after I approached from the right direction.
I'd been to the magnificent Hobart Town Hall to watch/hear my uncle play on the Steinway Grand Piano a little earlier. At late notice, I ended up turning today into and R&R day, and so I've time to find a few geocaches this afternoon.
Thanks for bringing me here.
Cheers, EPs.

Thanks for the cache Diadem and TaurusSix.
I went to the nearby education institution (it was a high school then) and we had to run to Shag Bay for our cross country in winter. The Old Boiler was our turning point and we had to touch it before we could turn around! Nice quick find at GZ today.

In the area today doing the twelve new GCA caches and stopped to locate this new cache. It was a lovely day to be out caching. The tide was very high but managed to get around. TFTC

Love the walk around to shag bay from the car park. Arrived early enough that the car park was full, although when I returned from the walk the car park was full and cars were parking everywhere.

Nice walk around to the cache, but the water was well in (High tide) and the last 100 metres had to be go around not go through. It was all good.

Thank you for the cache. Highly recommend the Burke and wills GCA cache in the area

Hi Diadem & Taurus Six, what a brilliant day for a wander to your new caches on and near Shag Bay. A glorious wander with the sun, spectacular views, glistening water and both the bridges providing some scale to the outlook. I need to keep finding caches as my favourite points are dwindling, been very lucky finding great caches lately, so I will join membsec and make it two from two, just gorgeous in the Bay. Naturally all good with both hides.

FTF 7.25am
Saw this one published last night and as we were at Geo-daughter's house relatively near-by contemplated a walk but as the birthday celebrations for our grandson were in full swing the idea was quickly dismissed. Woke up early today and decided that it was a good morning stroll so set off in cool but pleasant weather. A very enjoyable stroll past the Geilston Bay boats to the Derwent and round to the first cache. The track basically disappeared from this point and followed an upper trail until a slippery drop from just above the cache. An interesting spot and very quiet and calm at GZ. Again spotted an obvious hide and found the clean log ready for the FTF scrawl.
TFTCF, the walk and the new spot
